Hello ladies,

Has anyone over 50 who is post menopausal lost weight?

I'm having a really hard time right now. I will turn 55 next month and haven't menstrated in 5 years. I've always been able to lose weight on weight watchers, if I truly followed program. The doctor told me a couple of months ago that I really have to get my weight under control for health reasons. Cholesterol is up again, etc..

I've never been big on exercise but started a fitness routine about a month or so ago because it's really important to me to be as healthy and fit as possible at this stage in life. I followed WW religiously for 3 or 4 weeks and only lost 2.6 lbs the first week. It was downhill after that, lose .2, gain .2, etc., even with the increased exercise. I've been walking about 1-1/2 to 2 miles per day, going to dance class once a week, even signed up for a hula hoop class once a week because it's supposed to be a great low impact cardio workout.

After 3-4 weeks on program, and not really losing weight, I got frustrated and have been overeating the past week or two. I know that's not a solution. I have actually kept up the exercise and plan to continue to do so.

I'm not sure why I'm not losing. I've been on thyroid medication for several years but my levels are fine and I've not had a problem losing weight since I went on meds.

Perhaps I need to totally revamp my diet. Maybe I've reached the point in life where I have to cut back on carbs and really stick to healthier choices. I usually eat fat free greek yogurt for breakfast with a skim latte & sometimes fruit, a sandwich for lunch (I've cut out snack type foods, i.e. baked chips during the day), dinner is usually chicken, steak, lean pork, etc. with a big salad using a little olive oil for good fat, sometimes a potato, if I have enough points.. I do allow myself a couple of cookies or low fat ice cream after dinner.

This has always worked for me in the past, if I stayed within my WW points, but maybe I need to do something different now. Any suggestions?
