Do YOU consider peep toe shoes to be appropiate for Church?

Yes. I think we are beyond the point of thinking peep toe shoes are inappropriate for almost anything.

Since people wear jeans and shorts to church, of course peep toe shoes are more than fine.

It entirely depends on your church and even your position in the church. One I went to, women couldn't wear slacks if they were doing anything in the choir, etc. I had on a split skirt--didn't pass muster. But I think I saw strappy shoes. Some other churches in our area would not allow open toe shoes, and I went to one church years ago that required hats for ladies.

I think a good rule is not to wear anything you wouldn't wear to a serious job interview or a funeral (outside of the color, which is not an issue here.) You'll never be given "the eyeball".

Some churches are "come as you are" in our area--meaning, it's about the message and they are just glad to have people come in and hear it, and don't worry about modeling behavior of dress.

You can always check with the wife of the pastor (or the pastor, if a woman) and ask what they consider appropriate and what they'd prefer not to see in church.

What does it matter what anyone wears to church as long as they go. Churches and those who judge are missing the point of why they are going. If you have the true spirit of religion, you wouldn't even notice what anyone is wearing. Worry about your own soul and not what some wear!!! If you have to "check" with anyone about what to wear to church then it is about fashion!!! How christian is it to be given "the eyeball" by holier than thou members who judge someone by what they wear and not who they are??!!!!

I think the days of gloves, hats and sensible shoes have pretty much gone away for church services. If you feel you are dressed appropriately, then you are fine. In spite of those who say we shouldn't judge people by what they wear, you know it's going to happen whether it be at church, work or Wal-mart.

I think dressing nicely is a way of showing respect for the church, God and the religion. I think respect is a necessary part of worship--you aren't worshiping anything you don't respect. I think by definition respect and reverence go with religious worship.

That being said, I have never thought of or heard of peep toe shoes not being worn to church. But whatever.

Ok, now that there has been several responses, I will put in my opinion. I think peep toe shoes are fine for church, I was, as I stated, just curious what others thought. I plan to wear them to a late morning wedding at a centuries old church that I have never attended, next month. This has been my plan since I received the invitation.

I am looking forward more to seeing the inside of the church than for attending the wedding actually, I love old churches. And although the groom has been to my home and see him at other social gatherings sometimes, I am not close friends with him, and have never met the bride.

This question surprised me, to tell the truth, but it is good to know that people are thinking about what is appropriate to wear.

I see no problem with peep-toe shoes at church. Don't forget, in the 1940s, the peep-toe shoe was very popular. As a group, those who were adults at that time were a far more conservative group than we are. And they wore peep-toe shoes to religious services.

I am a warden in an Episcopal church in the Bronx. We have homeless people coming to our worship services, sitting side by side with folks from the Caribbean who wouldn't think of coming to church in anything less than dresses, hosiery, and grand hats. As far as we are concerned, it's all good. Anyone who cares to wear peep toe shoes to our church may feel free to do so. I don't think God minds.
