On 3/10/2015 TY said:
One thing that stylists don't mention (and this was a pet peeve of mine with Clinton Kelly and Stacey London) is that it's not just how a pair of capri pants look while you are standing up, but how do they look when you are sitting down. Pants will tend to look shorter when you are sitting down and the narrower the leg opening, the more obvious it is. When narrow leg capri pants are close to the knee, when you sit down the hem can hike up to above the knee and create unsightly bulges in the flesh right above the knee because the hem won't have any stretch in it as it's usually 2 to 3 layers of fabric.

So if you are up-cycling a pair of your old pants or jeans and turning them into capris, clam diggers, or crop pants, keep that in mind and try them on and sit down in them to decide where you want the hem to be and where you should cut them before actually taking a pair of scissors to your pants. It's better to go longer as you can always cut more off if you think that they are too long.

Very good advice!

In the last show, Mary Beth was discussing where the length of the !!" inseam of the D & Co. French Terry Shorts would come on your leg. She, as many others on QVC like to talk about the height of the models as though this is a determining factor in the length of shorts, capris, crops and/or pants. However, it makes little difference how tall one is... it is the length of your own inseam that makes all the difference! Long legs, short legs, long thighs, short thighs... you see the issue. It's best not to go by the measurements of QVC hosts but by your own measurements.

I totally agree! Obviously, just because pants hit a model at a certain length means nothing to me -- even if I'm the same height. You can't tell by looking whether or not the model is long-waisted, short-waisted, or what have you. I ALWAYS look at the "click here" measurements to figure out what looks best on ME.

I agree ... I'm taller than average and I'm long waisted - and my legs are not long ... I always have to hem (or roll) pants.

I ignore anything said about inseams ... I just do my own thing when I get the pants/shorts/etc.

Well, first of all, the hosts will say anything!

But I did have to return a pair of SG pants because of length. I specifically chose what I did because of the length in the size chart. It was either because of fabric or a mistake on Q's size chart, but their idea of 30" and mine were not the same.

I have long legs, short torso (from right under chest to waist). So I need a long rise (length from waist of pants to bottom of crotch). So, I'm forever bringing the correct length of yarn with me, measuring that section of pants on racks in stores.

I think the hosts are just trying to give us an idea of how the items look, so I don't see how that is not helpful. Pointing out how tall the models are is just giving us more info. I like to see how clothes look on the models and take into consideration my own stats before I buy.
