I've had an unexpected response to Joan's current shows. I have watched her shows for years and never missed watching if I could help it. She had such a grounded view of life and this transferred to her clothes. I wear her clothes and jewelry, and always feel confident & comfortable.

Her charisma & authenticity was such a part of watching as well, and now 10 minutes into the show, I turn it off. David Dangle is a wonderful man, but he can't carry on the great talent & drive that was Joan's trademark alone.

Just wondering -- why you are watching the show? Are you watching it because you like Joan's clothing/jewelry line or are you watching because you liked Joan's personality? No one can ever replace Joan. We all miss her. You just have to get used to the change. David has worked with Joan for many years. I think between he and Melissa, they know what Joan would or would not design.

Of course it isn't the same w/to Joan. She was fun to watch and it was her line but I do think David Dangle has done a wonderful job as far as presenting the line. I'm sure it is difficult for him, too.

She represented a role model for me since I first watched her in the 60's. She went to places no others would touch and broke new ground for women in significant ways consistently. Her shows and her personal impact were enmeshed into one. At my lowest, I could think of her and her own personal tragedies and subsequent triumphs and be strengthened.

Merchandizing knows the power of tying product to celebrity and this was a major successful example of that concept.

I purchased Joan rivers merchandise not because I thought she knew me, liked me, was my TV friend, or anything else..... I would have purchased the items I liked from any vendor, it just happened to be a Joan Rivers item. Life must go on, if I like something or a vendor, I'm sorry to here of her passing but that should not affect if I buy items or not.

Joan added a lot of entertainment to the presentations, but her sense of style still exists in the items. David D. Is an excellent representative of Joan's line. My only negative is that Jane's jacket is too small for her - she needs a bigger size.

The JR shows were among the few I would get reminders for. I really enjoyed watching, and honestly didn't know how much I would miss her. I'm not a person to follow celebrities and normally the host or vendor's presentation isn't what matters in my decisions to buy. But Joan had such a presence, an ebullient spirit, and I think many of us feel the enormous emptiness remaining after her passing.

Of course, being practical, it's a business and sales will always be the bottom line. But as long as Joan's fans are still interested, I think David will do a fine job and most of us will watch. I always liked his presentations. To me, since we all know life is fleeting, it's nice to have someone who knew and loved Joan... and someone Joan knew and loved... to be here to carry forward her legacy, to be the guardian of her history and the keeper of her stories.

I think many times we associate something about a "celebrity" or a public person to something within ourselves. This is the way it is for me... for instance, I have always thought that Joan's spirit and zest for life would traits that I want to cultivate and desire to have... no matter what age. Plus, since she was small and so am I, it gave me a way to judge proportion of her fashions on my frame.

Of course it is not the same, but David shares Joan's design aesthetic, and the team which supported her line is still in place. Many designers have retired, passed on or sold their firms, yet the companies remain and continue. Joan's should do the same IMO.

This isn't about any kind of over-reaction to celebrities and is no reflection on David or the line, but I understand completely what the OP is saying. I might still purchase occasionally on-line, but without Joan, I have little interest in watching the shows. Joan, especially when paired with a host who did her justice, was not only a shopping resource, but was entertaining, something in very short supply around there these days.

These are people we don't know, will never know, and people who could not possibly care less whether or not we exist. Why get so strung out over them? It doesn't make us or them bad people - just people who have no common denominator. If there's something you like about them, or want to emulate, then do so, but stop with the idol worship, please.

I think it's perfectly human to like some people and not others.

Having said that, I do like David and even feel he was probably much more a part of the real behind the scenes work for Joan's line than I ever realized. He knew exactly what hos role was when Joan was on stage - he knew he was second banana and I never once saw him infringe on Joan's territory.

Although, I do remember thinking a few times in Joan's last few appearances that he was aware she was not mentioning all the details they seemed to have discussed prior to the shows and he quietly and professionally inserted what was needed.
