Source for redesigning fur coat?

Anyone have a source for a company that can re-construct a fur coat into a vest. Anyone know the approx cost?

I would only deal with a professional furrier. Be prepared to pay a good amount.

Zinman's in King of Prussia, PA does gorgeous work in taking a fur coat and creating many possibilities, whether sheared, dyed or same surface: vests, scarves, capes, sweaters, hoods, teddy bears or totally redesigned coats. Prices are expensive but reasonable given the amount of work necessary to create a finished garment. HTH

I acquired my moms real fur jacket (from the 60's) after she died. I love and cherish it because it was hers but would I ever wear it? Never. I am dead set against wearing real fur. I keep my moms fur for sentimental reasons only.

ITA we don't want to go there,

The best place would be a fur shop in your area, it is not as inexpensive and one may think as they usually have to remake the entire garment, but worth doing.

I'd give the whole coat to a friend or relative who really needs it.......and go ahead and buy yourself a vest. You will probably even save money.

Years ago I had this done by a local furrier. I really loved it. Unfortunately I had it made into a size 6. When I outgrew it I had it remade into two pillows. I love the pillows, too, but now I'm a size 6 again and wish I had the vest.

I agree with going a furrier. They will be able to take the condition of the fur into account when redesigning. It may be more involved than a crop and sew. Also, if anyone has any old, unwanted, and especially unwearable furs please consider looking into something like "Coats for Cubs" they can use the furs animal rehabilitation settings.

I had my grandmother's coat re-done years ago via a professional furrier. The fur was dried out and I thought not very salvageable. He re-worked the fur as a lining to a gorgeous full length gabardine winter coat that was well worn for years. Good luck!

Another vote for a local furrier - someone who can tell you your options and to whom you can go for a fitting once the new vest is cut and basted. I would expect the cost to be fairly high - although if the coat can be cut instead of deconstructed before the redesign that could eliminate a few dollars. Not much though. You're asking for a labor-intensive process.

Love the idea of pillows!! I have a fox jacket from the 80's that I love, but never wear...might look into the pillow idea!!

A local furrier can redesign the coat or recommend someone for you to deal with. I remember buying a beautiful Canadian fisher coat from a local furrier (which was pre-owned), and he redesigned in an updated cut for me. It was a great purchase because I saved a lot of money by purchasing pre-owned, and the coat was custom made for me.

What wonderful ideas! I am all about recycling and if you could wear or use something which would otherwise be stuck in the back of a closet, go for it.

I did it. LaBelle Furs in Orlando.

I had a full-length coyote coat that I never had the opportunity to wear.

Not only did LaBelle make a gorgeous vest for me, they also made a hand warmer (rhymes with "fluff" and starts with "m", but Forum Police would not allow the word) and boot toppers. They are a professional furrier and I highly recommend them.

Donation is a great idea for the situation I'm in now. I have three pretty large size furs since my mom passed last year and I've been stuck on figuring out what to do with them. Thanks for the idea.

Fox pillows would be beautiful. I love my mink pillows.
