How do shams work?

I bought the coverlet and sham set and I have to be honest I have never used shams before. Do you just use a regular sleeping pillow and then cover it with the sham? Dennis didn't explain how they work, he just said to put them in front of the pillows you sleep with. Thanks to all !!

Yes, for most adults there are four pillows on a bed. Two have pillowcases and two use shams. There should be an opening in the back of it where you can "stuff" the pillow in.

Shams are merely decorative. You can just put in a ""filler"" pillow inside. You still use your regular sleeping pillows.

Thank you so much. Dennis' home decor line is so lovely. He said he was inspired by when he stayed at a hotel in France that was 150 years old. I am looking forward to adding a touch of class to my tired decor. I hope freshening up the bed will be cheaper than renovating my bedroom. I bought the silver and will use crisp white Northern Night sheets.
