Visited the Gardens & Nursery of Planten Tuin Esveld in the Village of Boskoop while touring Holland by roadster or ("fiets" - Dutch for bicycle). Their Japanese Maple Garden is absolutely breathtaking and they maintain an extensive, most impressive collection of Ecuadorian Orchids that just blew my mind. Incredible place!

My Etoh peony bed is in it's 3rd season consisting of Bartzella & Kopper Kettle - both have proven to be most hardy & vigorous growers. Added Pink Hawaiian Coral this year - so pretty.

In fact, Alaska is developing a very fast growing Peony Industry. Our unique climate & intense Summers of 22 hours of Sunlight (come Solstice) allows peonies to bloom in July, August & September! - Making a whole lot of brides in the Lower 48 very happy come their wedding day!

I rarely source any plant or seed South of the 60th Parrallel - that's the secret to my gardening success.

Happy planting . . .

Regarding my Yellow Hydrangeas & your questions from the Linea Fashion Thread: Purchased my bloom-less plants in late April from a local greenhouse & placed in a friend's heated greenhouse awaiting the warmer temp's of late May. My (2) plants were located right along side the other mopheads featuring handwritten markers - one read simply "yellow" - other was marked "y/o"?

First thought was could this be true? Felt the same as when I saw my first Itoh Yellow Peony which has obviously become a reality of a long desired hybrid for the Peony lovers of the World. The only thing unbelieveable was it's astronomical price tag of $350/3 to 5 eye plant. It took a couple of years, but the current price of the Itoh compares to most other peonies sold to the masses today. To the contrary, these yellow hydrangeas were priced same as the other colors @ the time of my recent purchase. Of course, I was full of questions & wanted verification of these young plants truly being yellow? - name, source, etc., etc. However, the handsome young dude running the greenhouse that day assured me that he was hired for his brawn vs. brain & refer'd my pressing ?'s to his employer. It may take a while to talk to owner as he does not work on Saturdays & not avail to reach by phone, but will remain tenacious in my quest & let you know.

As for color - would describe as a soft Yellow, somewhere in between light & medium in hue with an underlying picotee of Orange of sparsely scatter'd sterile florets (only 5/6 total of my two potted plants.

Like you, I've googled too - to NO avail. Even researched F.A Esveld & their wonderful photo gallery - also, an empty pursuit.

p.s. Posted Image IS more than likey a "dyed" job from a Florist - it was just a quick grab I including as a visual to my posting on the Linea Fashion Thread.

Yellow Hydrangea is not longer a fantasy to me, yet remains quite mysterious.

F.A Esveld is a European hybridizer/grower-- Netherlands maybe?? I forget.

I agree, the ITOH peonies have come down greatly in price. For those who have no idea what an ITOH peony is-- its a cross between the herbaceous and the tree peonies. They have the characteristics of both. I did see a few at Wintherthur in DE a few weeks ago.

One great source for ITOH peonies is Klehm Songsparrow Nursery in WI. Not sure if they ship to ALA but I would look at their website. They ship their peonies in the fall.

I'm sorry I didn't attend our local nursery's lecture on hydrangeas (new introductions are a topic discussed at the lecture).

Forgive a discussion about YELLOW HYDRANGEAS?!? Photos??? Where, oh, where can we see such a flower? Frost routinely kills hydrangeas here in PA, sigh ... look forward to hearing more about these yellow hydrangeas, NaturalBornWoman ... or any other flowers or talk of Alaska

I have to get up to my local nursery and ask about yellow hydrangeas. They will know if they are truly yellow or dyed white ones.

I went yesterday to ask about yellow hydrangeas and they told me about a plant called Yellow Waxbells. It is NOT a hydrangea but has yellow bell shaped flowers. I got the impression that whoever found this native to Korea/Japan are marketing it as a yellow hydrangea because it blooms in the summertime. That is all I could find out about it.

Latin name is:
<h3 class=""title-latin-name"">Kirengeshoma palmata</h3>
