SKORTS. Can someone explain them to me?

I just watched Susan Graver selling a skort, and this morning I watched a D&Co. show that included a printed skort/solid T set. I've seen several other skorts for sale on QVC lately, too. So they must be popular, although I have never seen anybody wearing one away from a QVC stage.

But I don't get them. A skirt -- or even just a front flap, not even a full skirt -- over a pair of shorts? Why not wear either a skirt or shorts; why wear two layers in the heat of summer, when you can get by with one? The skirt part of the skort is short, certainly, but it's certainly as long, if not longer, than mini-skirts typically were back in the day. And we didn't wear shorts under miniskirts.

So I'm just curious about where/when those of you who do purchase/wear them and how they compare to plain old shorts.

Our 2 year-old granddaughter wears them and they look cute.

For me, I see no point. But for some, maybe with the skirt-look in front they feel better than wearing a pair of shorts.

Did you ever get in and out of a car wearing a shorter skirt? Think about it...I have a low to the ground car. and I always am holding my skirts/shorter dresses down when I get in and out of the car (especially if you have longer legs). Especially when you are in crowded parking lot (7-11) where you are parked close to other cars...skorts are a lot easier!

Well I wore them to school when I was 7 because girls couldn't wear shorts and it allowed me to swing on the swings and slide down the slide without showing my panties.

I wear them all the time. Not the kind with the flap in front but that's a straight skirt with shorts underneath. Cool and comfortable. Can wear a short skirt without worrying about flashing. The shorts part are very lightweight. The skirt doesn't bunch and wrinkle like shorts do. So it gives you the look of a cute miniskirt but comfort of shorts.

This Susan Graver skort (A233098) is one of my favorite Q purchases. I like it because It is a regular length skirt - not too short like most skorts - with shorts underneath. I like the shorts part because I don't have to think about how I am sitting or moving when out and about. I wore it a lot on a trip last summer.

I love to wear skorts. I work at a school for special needs kids. I'm always moving and bending. Sometimes I need to be on the floor during different exercises with the kids. I feel super conscious in a regular skirt, but I need to be dressed professionally. Most of the skorts I have are a little more dressy than the ones on QVC. I wear nice blouses and sweaters to dress them up even more. I get that there not for everyone, but I personally love them.

I wore mine today. Nice not to worry about anything showing. The one I have is skirt all the way around (back too) and a casual fabric in black. Like the look of a skirt but wouldn't wear one that short and narrow without the shorts under.

I golf and for that they are wonderful. You get the cute look of a skirt with the modesty of shorts. Mine are the athletic kind so the layers are thin, not bulky.

I have these in every color.... yes.... E-V-E-R-Y color. The hem hits me about 1-inch above my knees.

Now why don't I just buy skirt or shorts, instead shorts/skirt combo? I wear the above skort to work; I can't wear shorts to the office. I am not comfortable wearing short skirts for fear I may show my ..... um..... ASSets when I climb stairs or when the wind blow or when I get in and out of a vehicle. I can go on, but you get the idea.

The Susan Graver ones look more like the shorts parts are long legged underpants since they are made from T shirt material. I don't get it either.

I wore them in the late 60's/70's. I used to make most of my clothing back then, & I made/wore several. I loved them, & wish I could wear them now.

As a lady at the age where shorts are just not acceptable I bought five of the skorts in the D & C TSV. Love them, not only for the modesty factor, but if I were to wear shorts or when I wear capris or slacks you have to be careful what you wear underneath, ex. a skimmer, or shaper type undie to prevent panty lines. No worry with these skorts. I can wear any kind of undie with these. Love them and they look a little more dressy than shorts. I get lots of compliments on my "skorts."

I don't own any, but I can see them as casual/sportswear. If I am doing something athletic I will wear my shorts so I don't really have a need for a skort. As far as wearing them because short skirts aren't as modest, at my age I don't wear anything that short. There is a way to get into and out of a car wearing a knee length skirt or dress without showing too much leg. We used to always wear shorts under our uniform skirts in grade school and high school for modesty.

I love them. When I am on the go and want to have something dressier than shorts, skorts work. I like knowing I can lift and bend over without flashing the masses.

OMG, "culottes." I had a pair made of orange sailcloth (seamstresses, you know what I mean) with giant spaced white and green flowers, and matching square neck sleeveless skimmer top. I think I was about nine years old. They were stitched to create a permanent pleat emanating from the center front seam because hey, they were a dressy outfit for me back then.

So yes, I know culottes and I am no more likely to wear culottes again than I am to wear a skort. I'll stick with my narrow leg Bermudas when I want to wear shorts, and a mid knee-length pencil skirt when I want to wear a skirt.

The only more ridiculous thing I wore as a child was the dress with split in the front and pair of matching shorts beneath. For that combo, I selected a red bandana print. The dress had puffy short sleeves and the whole mess was edged in black lace. I wore that getup to a wedding. All photos were subsequently and mysteriously destroyed.
