Happy Day!

Just preparing lunch - it is 95 degrees here in AZ just picked the sweetest most delicious tomatoes from my garden - still warm as I am slicing them they taste like candy. Putting them on fresh baked rye sourdough bread baked by our local deli this a.m. With Basil from garden & drizzle olive oil. - It tastes great. All this and Louis on on the 5th. Life doesn't get much better. Hope you all have happy day too.

My plants are loaded with tomatoes but with the heat this week production will stop. I won't get any more until fall! Darn, going up to 108 this week!!!

Huenemeo Girl this is my first attempt at tomatoe growing what do you mean re heat production will stop? We have a heat warning here so will plants stop producing? - very new at this!

It's so refreshing to see someone finding joy in the simple things. We all would be a lot happier, I think, if we took time to be grateful for the small things in life. Good for you!

Thank you for the kind comments. Like lots of you I worked from age 16 years to my retirement so simply being in the garden is lovely.

Failure to set fruit

Every year gardeners have tomatoes that flower but do not set fruit. This is caused

by low night air and soil temperatures (below 55°F), abnormally hot weather, low soil moisture, excessive shading, or over-fertilizing.

Thank you Just Jazzmom going to go on this site to check it out. Have various books but nothing about heat. My husband groaned as these are my babies and now I have something else to worry about as we have severe heat warning here for next 2 days and all my DH hears about is ""look at my tomatoes!"" They are in large pots so I feel like bringing them in!

I have tomatoes that are just now ready to bring in and enjoy. It is wonderful to enjoy the simple good things in life, isn't it? I am loving the retired life, and a garden is a fun way to do it. Everyone enjoy.

Obviously we plant at a different time of the year than AZ does.

Growing up I loved sitting in my grandmother's tomato garden with a salt shaker. Nothing like warm garden ripe tomatoes with salt!

Well it will be awhile before tomatoes come on here in New England. And so far it's been a pretty cool spring as to temps here. But our plants are a good 6 inches high and our hopes even higher. I'm already experiencing some mouth-watering thinking of how much I love bringing in a handful of tomatoes from the garden and juicing them. You will never taste a better glass of tomato juice than juice freshly extracted from garden ripe tomatoes in season! We won't mention those wonderfully decadent BLT's .... but they too loom on the horizon! Can't wait And fresh ""butter and sugar corn"" with sweet tender tiny little white and yellow kernels just HAS to be accompanied by a plate of sliced deep red warm-from-the-garden tomatoes Happy SIGH....

I just returned inside from harvesting the last of our asparagus. It's only enough to add to some spring risotto tonight with our grilled pork tenderloin. Up here in the Adirondacks, my tomato plants only went in about a week ago!

I love, love home grown tomatoes. I used to say, "Put on my tombstone, "Here lies Annie. She loved a good tomato".

I think one of the joys in life is to know there is no such thing as 'the good old days'. We all need to be able to recognize when we are happy and enjoy the moment. Don't look back and long for those days when we were happy.

No tomatoes in MD yet, but have we got strawberries! I bought 2 qts at our local farm stand today & have biscuits for shortcake in the oven right now.
