I cannot find jeans/pants/capris that fit! I have a longish torso and shortish legs. Plus, I carry my weight in my hips, thighs and lower abdomen. I am between 16-18 and am 5'5" and can't seem to find the perfect pair of bottoms! Most have a crotch that is uncomfortably and chafingly long, gape in the waist (and thus bunch up when wearing a belt) or have both going on at the same time! I cannot deal with the long crotch at all, so I never purchase them. All of my tops have to be almost tunic length to conceal the mess at the back of my waist and I must wear a belt even if the fabric does bunch up. If you are aware of a brand or style, sold on QVC or elsewhere, I'd appreciate the input!

I think you need pants that say ""short"" or ankle. The only brand I'm aware of that specifically talks about this is the Quacker Factory bottoms- probably in their Dream Jeannes.

I'm the same way too; long waisted with short arms and legs. Even though you're a little taller than the parameters call for, try some petite sizes. My height is just at 5'4" which is right on the cusp, and I've been surprised that some petites fit me much better. Good luck.

I have similar fit issues - and have my entire life. I learned a long time ago how to either make it myself or learn to alter to fit.

It's easy enough to take the pants up at the waist and shorten the legs. Many times, when I do shorten the rise - the legs are fine.

My torso isn't particularly long, but my legs are short, and I am blessed with plenty of padding, including on my bottom half. You need petite/short length pants. At a size 16/18, you might look for pants in a missy/petite XL or numeric size 16/18, or try a petite plus size 1X or numeric size in a plus petite. I don't have experience with QF, but it appears they offer sizes that might work for you. Personally, I'd recommend going to stores and trying on pants. JC Penney, WalMart, Sears, and some other stores offer petite and plus petite sizes. Unless you're a "premium jeans only" girl, WalMart has good petite jeans. So does JustMySize.com. You can do some preliminary searching online also.

If there's a big discrepancy between your hip size and your waist size, you may need to do some tailoring to get an adequate fit in the hip without gapping at the waist.

That would be ME....Annabelle. I've lost a lot of weight (mostly in the middle) in the past year.

However, well I'll spare you the vision, but the residual (yes, that's it) is still there. So, here's an example:

I just finally tried on a pair of Denim and Company crop pants (size Large). They're the one's with the crosses across the legs. Lovely, really. Impressive, if I say so myself because this time last year I wore a size 2X.

Anyway, so I pulled up these size Large pants and they were snug but they worked. I had them on for 1/2 hour in the house. Then I bent over and they fell down below my belly and my lower bu tt showed.

I can't figure out why this happens. Getting back to the question. Yes, I have a long torso but the pants still fit strange.

Congrats on the weight loss Annabelle - good for you!!

While I don't have your body type, my own perplexes me. Just goes to show, even after losing an impressive amount of weight, that doesn't cure the clothing ills.

Like everyone else, we will continue our search for the perfect fit.

Just wanted to say Congrats and enjoy your holiday weekend!!

I am your height now, was 5'6" and I have a 29" inseam so most petites fit very well. I, like you have a short rise and true petites have the short rise. The quacker pants are just shorter and have a regular rise. They don't fit me. I buy Diane Gilman jeans and Louis del olio pants in petites and the fit is perfect. I laugh when the host say buy tall to wear with heels! Try them and good luck, Sonnie

I'm opposite.........I need more length from waistline to bottom of crotch in pants.... I believe I'm 'short waisted'? (Less space from waist to under the bustline). I have long legs, too. I'm always measuring in stores (with tape measure) this area.

I am built similar to OP but 5'4""....I have had the most success with Liz Claiborne ankle pants at JCP. They fit well through the waist and are full-length on me so no hemming needed which is great. I have found that Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (not the Amanda) in ""short"" and capris fit very good. Costco is the only place I have found the jeans in ""short"" in my size.....they carry a big size range from 4-18 and plus sizes also.

Sounds like you need a mid (9" or so) rise, and a "curvy" fit to eliminate the' back gap'. Just look for that info online and on the labeling in B & M stores.

BTW, I'm 5'8"... but with most of my height in my lonnng torso.

I'm the opposite and think most clothes are made for people with the longer torso. My waist is short but my legs are longer.

I can wear petite tops and shorts, but not pants. Both my mother and grandmother had short waists so I come by that naturally...and it's not a good look. I always envy(in a good way) those that don't have a short waist, clothes look better on that body type.

My gf's that carry their weight in their hips and thighs buy the "curvy" fit in pants and jeans. I like the more boy-cut...straight down like a guy.

As I've said on here before, no one will ever describe me as having an hour-glass figure.

I feel your pain! All of my recommendations below are for jeans that don't gap at the waist yet accommodate my more than ample lower half

Try NYDJs. I'm built like you but I'm 5'4" and size 14. If you are between 14 and 16, try the 14. Typically you go down a size in this brand. Do not buy them too big as they will stretch. You might be able to wear Petites in this brand or choose regular length in an Ankle style. These jeans are denim but very stretchy.

Quacker Factory Dream Jeannes are comfy but not as dressy as what I call real denim.

If you can still find them Coldwater Creek Knit Jeans are also a good fit for me. But their Petites are too short even for me. You will most likely need regulars in their brand. These also are not real denim but look pretty good and feel great.

I've also had luck with Macy's Style & Co. Not sure if they still make under that label or not. It might be called Inc. now. But I found them to fit like NYDJS but at half the price! Not as many styles as NYDJ but if like a style they have, perfect!

Good luck!

One more thing, I cannot wear Petites in most clothing. Many pants that are petite have too short a rise and don't cover my backside when I sit, etc. But the ones I listed above do cover. I cannot wear petite tops because they are wayyyy too short for me. The tops often don't meet the tops of my jeans. Dresses with a waist end up with the waistline at my bra strap!!!!

Teacherspet, I'm also very long waisted/long torso with short legs and 5' 6". So all of my "height" is on the upper part of my body. You see, most of us with this body type are better off wearing pants or jeans at or above the waist so that your legs will appear longer. I worked with a tailor many years ago and when she measured me all around, that was the first thing she noticed immediately! I then finally figured out why all the regular inseam pants were so long on me but yet my MUCH shorter friends could wear a 30-32" inseam with no problem. That's because they are short waisted/short torso with long legs and they don't always have to wear "true petite" lengths.. That old believe that if you're 5' 4" and under go with a petite, is soooo not true!! I get really annoyed when vendors on the air say this all the time. Now for me, the best fit is a regular rise with a short inseam of 28" where the rise is not shortened but only the inseam/length is. A true petite is when BOTH the rise & inseam are shorter. When I read the reviews on here where someone states that a pair of pants "came all the way up to my bra line!", then I know that that woman must be very short waisted and doesn't realize it, hence a negative review, lol! That's also when I know that on me it will fit well because I've got more torso length to work with. I'm a size 10 and I seldom wear tunics because the length cuts me off at the most unflattering part of my short legs making me & my legs looking even shorter & squatty. I wear tops that come about to my upper hipbone and pants that come at the waist or slightly higher. Try this, it'll make a huge difference in your appearance and you'll truly look your true height There are many articles online that address this issue and just google "long torso, short legs" best clothing looks and you'll see what I'm talking about. Good luck! I really get what you're dealing with! I envy those who have an equal upper & lower body!

I'm a pear shape but I'm short waisted and I'm 5'4". I have to have almost all of my pants, including jeans, altered in the waist to fit. By the time I get them to fit my hips, butt and thighs, the waist gaps and has to be altered. There is just no way around it.

I personally cannot wear most jeans labeled curvy. I think most curvy jeans are meant for women who have an ample behind but thinner thighs which isn't me. Curvy jeans are almost always too tight in my thighs but gap in my waist.

I cannot wear petites at all because they are high waters on me.
