Does anyone else feel this way (Christmas)

Does anyone else feel this way?

Maybe I am just getting old, but I really cannot wait till Christmas is over. And I feel bad saying that (like the Grinch) because I used to be Mrs Christmas (lol).

Its just hard for me to keep up anymore with my back issues. (I had 6 shots in my back Monday to get rid of the pain). Plus my grandkids are older (18, 16, and 12). I love them with all my heart!!!!.. but its not as exciting as when they were excited about Santa (if you know what i mean?).

DH and I went to a movie today, stopped at market and waited in line 30 minutes for food for Christmas Eve, and stopped at the cemetery to make sure the Christmas wreath was on my parents grave (And I stood there crying)..

We came home, had dinner, did laundry, had to clean (still have to finish before bed).

My kids, grandkids, son in law, and sons girlfriend come tomorrow afternoon to celebrate and I will be cooking Italian food.

Then Christmas we have to drive to the in laws 1& 1/2 hours away. (Id rather stay home and go see another movie. (Its NOT against them, just am not into traveling and mingling).

HOWEVER, I make the best of it all for the others, and will NOT be a grump to anyone but I just cant wait till its over.

I hate christmas. I have no family and its kinda lonely but at least I can shop only for myself

I feel the same way you do. I have never liked Christmas except when I was a child.

All of the hoopla for one day is crazy and out of hand. I feel like I am being held captive to spend money, work my butt off and pretend it is fun.

Christmas is not supposed to be a holiday. It's a holy day.

Christmas has become my least favorite holiday of all time. I don't even care about being paid double time, I just want it to be over as quickly as possible.

Have to admit - I wouldn't miss it if I moved to a country where it wasn't celebrated.

I like the religious part and all, but done in a quiet, thoughtful way, not in the overwrought way that's the norm today. The rest of it I'd forget about in less than a minute.

@kcladyz I understand how you feel. I don't hate Christmas but it's 100% different than it used to be. All my family here has died and my best friend, with whom I spent holidays, moved away several months ago. My sister in PA., is having a rare good time with her kids and grandkids. I have grandkids in Texas (parents divorced) but have never been invited to visit... boy, do they welcome the money I send though. I have no tree, no decorations except for a wreath on the door. No gifts. I do have a new good book I intend to read.

@Shorty2U I totally understand how you feel, we have watched our 3 (younger) granddaughters this week,we are retired, & will have about 18 family here tomorrow for dinner, gift exchange, etc..we are happy to be able to do this, but it is extremely tiring, & we are both looking forward to a quiet & peaceful Christmas Day! I had read posts a few days ago about "passing the torch" but neither of our sons have the space (or desire, I think) to host..so, I guess as long as we are able to do it, we just have to work on simplifying everything, starting next year..Merry Christmas to you & yours!

I don't hate christmas, but I'm kinda getting tired of all the work. It's 9:30pm and I just finished making potato salad cleaning up the house, then tomorrow I have to clean the kitchen, finish wrapping, last minute to the store, make Quiche (6) for Christmas morning , everyone coming tomorrow evening for ham and cheese sandwiches,potatoe salad. Oh, I just remembered I have to make the rolls for the sandwiches, all after I take flowers up to the cemetery in the morning. Thank heavens my family really appreciates it, or I wouldn't get out of bed in the morning.

Yes! Xmas isn't as exciting as it use to be,there are less family,at times there is more a feeling that the gift is somewhat dictated as to what one expects.Gone is the days of finding that right gift for that person, which was also a bargain! This year hubby and I will go to his nephews house for Xmas eve. We then come home to our Tigger kitty and our small top part of our fake tree and the train runs around, open some of our presents from our stockings ,and enjoy each other's company. Xmas day we try different things,this year we will go to a casino and have our own fun! We find we enjoy Xmas together more than with sad to say family. I do enjoy filling his 5 foot stocking up, been years I haven't been able too, but all in all having hubby by me is the best Xmas gift I get every year!

I feel badly for those that feel as you all do. I do think it has to do with either being alone or just tired and it's part of the aging process.

I know a little how you feel. I'm alone. And I went through videos of all those I love and are not here. Including my fur babies. I'm divorced many, many years now so it gets hard especially Christmas. I decided to send e cards to everyone on the planet ... anyone and everyone! To make them smile and make me feel joy. I talked to my 1 aunt who is 88 now... (she was married to my father's brother who is in heaven). She's remarkable in her spirit and strength. She is Catholic...so I hope that does not offend anyone.... she reminded me of all the good and to go to church and to thank HIM as it's HIS birthday! So between the tears and pain, I keep going. I'd give my right arm to see my mother again tho... I wish I had grand kids. Gosh I so wish I'd had kids.... and I had a nice surprise from someone here, family bond!! An email, which was wonderful. I think you are great, Shorty2U - you are a bright star in my eyes.

Ask for help! It's a lot of work to get a house ready AND cook the food. Have people chip in. We are driving to my SIL's house tomorrow and we will be bringing the food. They have all of the kids so it makes sense for us to drive there. We cook, she cleans (the house and the dishes). We get to leave when we're ready.

Then Christmas Day is all to ourselves!

You can change things around to make it to where it works for you. If you're in pain, NOTHING is fun. Been there, done that.

@sweetee2 If it becomes too much, learn some shortcuts. Buy sandwich rolls, buy potato salad and "doctor" it up, wrap as you buy, make a big breakfast casserole rather than quiche

Consider those who are homeless and cold on Christmas and Hanukkah.

Or perhaps those in prison or a nursing home and they've had no visitors in years. Or those who are hospitalized wondering how many more days they have let alone how many more Christmases they will see.

Count your blessings that all you have to worry about is how long it will take to clean the kitchen before you sit down in your comfy chair to pop in a dvd.

If it is any concilation ..... you are not alone....Christmas can be bittersweet for many. You have things going on with your back. It's alot to keep up, travel, entertain, housework, all of it. You should consider changing it up next year, and put yourselves first for a change. Your family would understand !

I haven't even started Christmas shopping if that might make you feel any better.

Meaning you are not alone. When I can give to someone in need, or visit an

elderly person, and take them a baked good, that is best what makes my heart

happy. Thinking about others in need at this time especially.

Thanks for your post...... We understand, this is a great place to vent about it.

Do something nice for you..... You deserve it !

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. (((cyberhugs))) to you and others who are feeling down during the holidays. I don't know if it would help, but I posted an article in the thread "💚To those who are hurting this holiday season... and best wishes to all!❤️" and it might offer some comfort. It's a bit long, so I won't copy and post it here. Please remember, take good care of yourself and continue to let others know how you feel. You're not alone and people do care about you and your feelings.

Yes, that is true. I should think of people who don't have anyone and or are homeless etc. I am blessed.

For 2 years my daughter did have Christmas Eve. But I know she works double shifts leading up to the holidays so I took back Christmas Eve because I felt bad the way she works so much. (DH helps some but not like he used to).

I did cut back to the Italian food dinner rather than the big traditional dinner.

Well anyway, I know my children and grandchildren love Christmas, so like I said will be OK and put on my happy face. But I think next week I will be glad to rest for a few days lol. (Of course we have to then take down all the decorations).

Had too many years of family using Christmas to show off their furs, diamonds, new cars, etc., to care much about family gatherings. It was just a day to brag about their jobs, trips, and oodles of money...................

I have always loved Christmas and can't imagine wanting it to be over already! I don't have any family, except a sister I don't interact with anymore because she is a miserable toxic person, that I celebrate with but do go to my SO's sister's events. While I would be happier staying home, it's always a fun time even with the sister's not always nice to each other. Even if I were by myself I would still decorate, bake and make myself a great Christmas meal and enjoy my dog's company. I do understand why some might not like Christmas though.
