SC living versus NC

For any that live in South Carolina, is there an advantage tax wise to live in SC versus North Carolina. I now live in TN and no personal property tax but that's about it. Sales tax is absurd here but property taxes are low. Being retired personal property tax isn't such a big thing I don't think. Many decisions!

@Elom, a word of caution while doing your comparisons. In both North and South Carolina there is a lot of local autonomy so just checking the nearest large city when you are looking for a more rural location may give you a distorted view of costs.

To get the most accurate picture you really need to look at the specific locations or at least the county in which they are located.

And I lived in Greenville gor more than 40 years, nd you could not oay me to live in the Carolinas again. While there may be smiling faces and beautiful places in the Palmetto state, there is also a lot of distrust of outsiders and still a lot of racism.

Just adding a post to suggest the "Area Vibes" site, where you can compare the cost of living where you are now to the cost of living where you are considering. It can be very helpful for large towns and small cities, if you are looking more rurally, check the nearest larger town.

I have lived in South Carolina (in Columbia) and have good friends there to this day. That is the state capital. I would have difficulty moving there because some elderly friends were shot in their driveway by a thief. Crime can be bad there, and this was not in a so-called "bad" neighborhood. It is upscale. I live in FL where everything goes town to town, and I agree with another poster that your search should be town-specific for the locations you are searching.

I am trying to get back to the Northeast and have found Area Vibes interesting and often surprising, town to town.

I am native of PA, but we moved to the Carolinas in 1994. I have lived both in NC (Charlotte area) and have been here in SC now for 16 years. I just love it. I don't see any obvious racism issues. No different from anywhere else in my opinion. The only thing that I greatly noticed a change in would be that this is definitely the bible belt. That was hugely different from what I was used to in Pittsburgh.
