Belks only gave their elite card holders 6 boxes this year where everyone could get a box with a purchase.

They took out their gift wrapping station.

They also no longer do minor alterations for elite cardholders.

It seems like the internet buying has changed a lot for the stores but there are some that still like to touch their things before purchase. I know fabrics and actually do not have to go and try on unless it is jeans.......thank goodness for leggings as I have gained weight on the new jeans and only one pair fits, so I am upset. These meds crazy and my son has my tennis shoes and will not send them so hopefully I will see him in dallas in January and get my tennis shoes.........I got the fit board so I am going to try and work on it tomorrow. I will be happy when my easy pays will be paid off in March. Sigh No more. lol

Oh my, so many things. Stores (even the nicer, more expensive, stores) are reducing their staff, and it shows. You have to wander to another department to find someone to cash you out. Often, the person assigned to a department has never worked there and does not know the merchandise. I find that in Lord and Taylor AND Walmart.

Honestly, stores clerks (generally) are only there to work the register.

Many stores have reduced or eliminated their cashback or rebate programs. Now I just rely on my regular credit card to earn cashback points.

I remember the days when a person knew the department they worked. I went in Macy,s looking for a certain color and material trouser sock. It was not in the women's department. he clerk suggested the men's. The young man clerk asked me what are trouser socks?

@Peaches McPhee I have noticed that the retail clerks when and IF you can find them are now acting like I am "Bothering" them when I have a legitimate question, a few have even shrugged their shoulders and walked away!

@Peaches McPhee My husband worked for K-Mart for 28 years and knew the entire store up and down and back and forth, of course he was one of the first employees eliminated, too high of high, too many weeks vacation, and the list goes on, now look at where K-Mart/Sears is financially!

I did almost all of my shopping online this year. However, when I did venture into a brick & mortar store, I noticed that the number of sales associates was reduced. I wanted to buy something and couldn't find an associate to help. No one was around.

@qvcaddition- last year, I went to Macy's bedding department and asked where the blankets were. We needed a blanket for our bed. The sales associate, who was probably about 50, took me to the comforters. I said no, a blanket. She was clueless. She had to get another associate, who had to search for them. They had one, on clearance.

I went again this this year to find another one and fortunately this time they knew what a blanket was. Fortunately I liked the one they had, a Martha Stewart, because that was the only choice.

The number of sales associates in stores has been drastically reduced for quite a few years now - 10-12 at least - well before shopping online became as popular as it is now. In most department stores, the number of salespeople was cut in half before hardly anyone shopped online. The cut-back on check-out and floor staff may be affected to some degree by online shopping now, but the real initial fairly drastic cut-back was for economic reasons that had nothing to do with online shopping.

Went to a large retail store (WM) and asked where the epilators were. I was directed to plumbing supplies. Just ordered the one the Q has as a TSV.
