I have a similar situation going on with an HSN shipment which was UPS to USPS. It got to my local post office, but from there it went to a post office about 30 miles north. And from there, it went to a post office over 300 miles south of that area. I called the Post Office this morning. They told me that it's apparently a "looping incident" and they'll institute a tracer to try to find the package and get it to me. And it was sooooo close to getting delivered!!!!!!!! Crazy.

I can't help but think a lot of this type of thing is input and/or scanning errors. Especially when the crunch is on for Xmas deliveries with double the # of packages to process and everything - including humans - in overdrive. I think it could be wrongly input data from anywhere along the line, from sender (such as QVC) to mid-way in the trip, to the last point before delivery. One wrong # could screw things up.

@Jamma, I had a UPS package from Amazon that I was tracking. It arrived at my nearest hub at 12:45 a.m. on Monday, and was then noted "out for delivery" on that day. It was updated to "next day" on the UPS site (and the "out for delivery" on Monday was deleted by UPS - but Amazon advised me "let us know if you don't get it by Friday(!)"

If it was indeed on the truck on Monday, I'd be doubtful that they didn't have time to deliver it, as they have delivered previously at nearly 10 pm. Overlooked/smooshed in a corner? I find that unlikely.

It was delivered on Tuesday at 9:30 pm after a latest delivery estimate of 6:45 pm, never updated.

So - was it never on "my" truck Monday? Did it get left at the distribution center? Was it on another, wrong truck and went to another nearby town? Did UPS advise Amazon it might take days, depending on where it went? I will never know. But clearly UPS input wasn't 100% accurate. And weather had nothing to do with it

It's due to the packages being shipped to hubs instead of directly to the city where the final delivery will be made. QVC, nor any other retailer has any control over this. It is a procedure ALL of the carriers use which their powers that be evidently find more efficient. I could be wrong, but I believe that the only exceptions to this route a package takes would be if the customer paid additional fees for next day delivery.

I've been seeing some inexplicable tracking going on with many of my deliveries

I've heard that this year, more people than ever are shopping online. Yesterday, I received an Amazon delivery. I was expecting three items, and got one. 10 minutes later, a different UPS truck pulled up in front of my house and dropped off the other two items.

Heck, I received a package today that was scheduled for delivery LAST Thursday.

I hate the new hub system, and tracking is iffy when they go by a manifest rather than actually scanning each package.
