Scary wedding proposal

Did anyone see the story on the marriage proposal that was staged by the groom? It looked like it was at a gas station. He and his girl are in a car, several police cars pull up with lights on, tell him to get out of the car and get on the ground. The girl gets out and stands in front of him and beg the police not to shoot him (guns were drawn). All of a sudden the guy gets up on his knee and proposes to the girl. Now, supposedly ALL of the cops in the area were aware of this, but how many things could have gone wrong! To me, it was not cute, funny or romantic to me - who wants to remember their wedding proposal like this? I think the groom took this WAY TOO FAR.

I would never get involved with someone that was that big of an exhibitionist to begin with.

I saw this on tv last night. My reaction was that this was really a poor decision on the part of both the fellow who proposed and also the police who participated. (This is not a condemnation of any group of people, just an observation about this one, isolated incident, by the way.)

@dooBdoo - I too was surprised the police would participate in this - I didn't hear he was affiliated in any way with the police department or I might understand it more.

thought it was a good idea.

And for the guy? If I was the gal, I would've B-Slapped into

next year. So incredibly stupid.

This scenario was played out on Everyone loves Raymond when Robbie proposed to Amy. Although no guns were drawn, police cars drove up sirens blaring when Amy and Debra walked out of a restaurant. So this really wasn't thought up by that groom.

I can't believe anyone thought this was a good idea, cute or funny. And I don't know what the police were thinking. Given the climate of this country at the moment, they should have used better judgement. I don't care what the bride and groom to be wanted. We don't always get what we want. Someone has to use common sense. And I am not knocking all police. In my crazy mind, I can't believe the majority of police officers in this country would have thought this was a good idea.

lf I was proposed to in this manner, I would have said NO.

I am totally with you on this, @cherry. I don't understand the need for that much attention or trying to make something like that go viral.

I am totally over viral proposals, promposals (why are those even a thing at all?!?!), wedding dances, pregnancy announcements, and baby gender reveal parties. I get documenting things for yourself, but publically documenting every big moment in your life just seems way too narcissistic for me. Get over yourselves. And get off my lawn!

You spoke my mind.

I really don't have a problem with people doing many of those things for just themselves and most immediate people in their lives, but I'm sick to death of the constant attention people need to get with all these 'announcements'.

They are done in public, or posted on social media, often times in hopes of being picked up by the media. We have one couple in our family that got engaged, and had about a million "engagement' pictures posted online, then she got pregnant and there were engagement pics done with the big belly thing. The wedding got postponed by the pregnancy, so after that, there were engagement pics with the baby, then a year after the birth even more engagement pics about a month before the wedding.

The wedding was called off just about two weeks before the date. All that public display of 'look at me, look at me' did nothing toward creating a solid and long lasting relationship. Maybe some more time should have been spent considering the choosing of a mate and developing a relationship, and not a photographer and grandstanding about a relationship that obviously wasn't what they portrayed in social media.

So many today are all about the attention.

Oh, such a sad story. I think people are way too caught up in the pomp and circumstance and forget what they're really celebrating in the first place.

My friend shared a pregnancy announcement video her sister-in-law had made. It was TWENTY MINUTES LONG. It started with a 5-minute video that made up the actual announcement and then spent another 15-minutes on photos of the couple's life together. Why would anyone need that much time to tell people they're having a baby. UGH.

A couple of months later, they had another video for the gender reveal. I can't even imagine what they'll do for the actual birth, but I'm sure it will be completely awful.

I saw that on tv last night. Everything has to be a sideshow and about garnering attention these days. It's a real sickness in this country.

I too don't understand police officers participating in that. Very strange and unprofessional.
