Warning: very sad but hearwarming Santa story

A 5-year-old boy dying in an ICU wanted to see Santa Claus. Thanks to a very brave and special loving man he did see Santa - and literally died in Santa's arms.

This gentleman looks and has a gentle caring soul like all Santas should. To give a child happiness and comfort at a time like that took a very special person. The nurse who made the urgent call to Santa is an angel. I can not imagine losing a child but thanks to these 2 people her son's last wish was granted and he passed without fear. The mother also received a wonderful gift on the worse day of her life.

@Moonchilde. Thank goodness she thought to tell Santa forget your suit the suspenders are enough. The angels must have been guiding the whole process. So many things could have consumed needed seconds such as traffic, etc as Santa arrived with no time to spare.

I saw that on Facebook this morning and I sat here crying my eyes out. Inspiring what Santa did, but very sad, and heartbreaking for the little boy and his family.

It made me think of my 3 grandchildren and the love I have for them.

It also put me into perpective fast as I was whining about my back pain yesterday. I got a hot shower, put on my big girl pants, and started (and finished) my Christmas wrapping. (Today a lesson learned).

If you read the article and Santa's comments, it's because Santa told everyone "if you think you'll be losing it and crying, please leave before I go in or I won't be able to do this without breaking down and crying myself" (paraphrased). So mom left - a last gift to her son, to let him have Santa, HIS last wish.

Such a beautiful story. That is certainly the work of the higher powers to let it all fall into place for one very sick little boy. He got his wish and his family should try to feel some comfort from that. It will help them as they begin to heal. That little boy has peace, best news of all.

This was on our local news tonight and I don't know how the reporter was able to get through the story without breaking down...I so hope that the parents are able to find some comfort in knowing that their precious child went in such a beautiful, comforting way in Santa's arms.

I read it somewhere else yesterday, was overwhelmed by it. Unbelievably sad but I find the beauty in it too. Sorry, beauty is such an inappropriate word..can't think of the right one. No right words for this story.

It certainly is easy to fall into that trap of "Oh woe is me" with our daily struggles, isn't it? But a story like this puts it all into perspective.

I'm less than happy with my 20 year old son about something today that now seems quite trivial. I agree with you @Shorty2U. Lesson learned.

This popped up on my FB timeline again...but under the

Snopes page as "Unproven". As of yet, it hasn't been

confirmed if true or not.

In the wake of all the Fake News, I have a funny feeling this might

be more fiction than truth.

Oh, it's still a Feel-Good story...but say it is fiction. That would be ok.

Since Schmitt-Matzen has reiterated his account of the visit, we cannot say with absolute certainty that it didn't happen — nor do we want to have to say it. But it's also impossible to say that it did, because of an apparent lack of vetting of his claims by the multiple media outlets that ran with the story without following up on Venable's initial reporting or finding a second source for the claim.

In this way, this particular Santa tale serves an instructive purpose: it shows how an unvetted story can spread regardless of how true it might be, with each news outlet repeating it making it seem that much closer to the truth until it is, at last, uncritically reported as fact.
