Dead beat dates?

Have you ever had someone skip out on paying the restaurant check, leaving you to pay for it?

It seems it's one guy method of operation, from an online dating site. He has done this to several women leaving them to pay a bill of over a hundred dollars.

So be warned all you single ladies

A long time ago, I had a guy excuse himself to go to the restroom and he never came back! Quite a shock!

OMGosh..........I don't ever recall paying for anything while dating (a hundred years ago, lol). Even the high school guys (young men) saved their money from working Summer jobs, and always seemed to have plenty of money for dates. Movies, plays, 'the best' restaurants, some in posh hotel dining rooms, etc., etc. Always plenty of saved-up money in those days, and they often had nice, precious (to them), perfectly restored cars. 'Where there is will, there is a way'.

I'd be more than suspicious if a guy wated to take me to a white tablecloth restaurant on a 1st date. That alarm would get a no thanks from me.

Outback is probably my high dollar limit for a 1st date. And tho I've never been stuck with the bill, I do bring a cc. Just in case.

I think single women who are into that type of thing can rest easy...lol That was just one guy and he isn't setting up dates with every single woman in the country. Most, if not all, of the single women I know who are meeting a guy for the very first time, meet for coffee or an after work drink. So, if some jerk did slip out the back door, the bill wouldn't be much.

I can't even imagine going out to dinner with some unknow mystery guy. Not because I'd worry about the check. I just wouldn't want to be stuck with a guy who I know I don't want to ever see again for...a dinner. I think coffee or drinks for that first date is really how it's done today.

@ROMARY, same as you, I'm from the old school generation where this would likely never happen. Of course back then we usually had a personal link to dates (via friend, relative, work, etc.) There was no meeting up with random strangers online. If there had been, that sort of thing may have occurred with more frequency in those days too. It's never happened to me, but I do know ladies who have been hoodwinked by these tacky males.

That said, one of the first rules of dating my parents stressed over and over to me was to have enough money to escape a bad date in a cab. Since meals with first dates for me were always in simple restaurants, the cab fare would have covered the check, and I could have called Dad to come and pick me up. Still today, I never go out on a date with anyone unless I am prepared to pay for my own meal and drinks-- even if I don't expect to have to do so. I'd be a bit suspicious if someone I have never had an in-person meeting with wanted to go high end right from the start. I feel this should be a red flag for honest men too. If a woman insists on an expensive place right away she's probably just looking to use the man for a few expensive meals and outings, and then take a hike on to the next victim.

Anyone going on a first date should meet them at the restaurant, cafe, etc., have your own means of transportation and money to pay for at least half of the check. If he offers to pay, fine but don't expect him too. You go your way, he goes his ad everyone is safe and not beholden to anyone.

I always throw the let's get dinner at...... out to a guy.

If he only wants coffee or a drink, he's either cheap & wants to see what he can get get out of you for a Starbucks? Or he's just not that interested.

Being the well-trained and well-bred Southern lady I am, I would simply pay the check, shake his hand, bid him good night and have the maitre'de call me a cab, and throw him out of the restaurant if he hung around and didn't get the message.

That would settle that little fiasco.

In the long run, the women got off cheap by only paying for dinner. He is no knight in shining armor that you want to build a relationship with.

Since I was very young, I have always split the check with dates, and noone has yet run away from his side of the bill.
