Mail Carrier Christmas Gift?

I was wondering how much to give the mailman? Last year, I gave him $10.00. Do those of you that give them something increase it periodically or is that a good amount?

I do not gift my mailman. He's doing his job-puts my mail inside my mailbox. Does nothing extra for me. I live in a mini highrise.

The law of the PO says they cannot accept gifts over $20. if I am not mistaken.

My guy lugs 22 lbs of birdseed a week ,plus many other pkgs for me , so I give him $25 every yr.

I don't give my mail carrier a gift, that was something from back in my grandmother's day. They make a good salary and mail carriers are NOT service workers, so a Christmas gift or check is not necessary. Not to say that you can't, I just don't know why anyone would.

We usually give ours $20, plus a box of candy or cookies. I know it is his job, but he deserves it after all the qvc packages he has to deliver to me

Yes they're not supposed to accept anything over $20. Can't imagine they would turn down $100-that is very generous. What the PO doesn't know won't hurt them I guess.

I am giving my mail carrier a $20 Domino's Pizza gift card. Earlier this year I gave him a Dunkin Donuts gift card to thank him for bringing all our packages to the door, there were many of them.

We've always had really decent mail people and I've always given them local activity discount books that cost about $25 each.

The sale of the books benefits a local church so I figure everybody wins.

This year the church didn't do the fund raiser.

I'm still thinking about what to do.

I do not give my mail carrier a gift. Here is the USPS policy

"All postal employees, including carriers, must comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch. Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount. Furthermore, no employee may accept more than $50 worth of gifts from any one customer in any one calendar year period."

We have a new mailman so nothing for him. Will see how he does his job first. Our previous mailman was always leaving the mail off a house through the neighborhood. We all got tired of it. He delivered several of my packages to the wrong house. The tracking would show delivered so I had to call the post office so they could call him & find out where he delivered my packages.

I don't know if he quit or what happened. He may have had so many complaints they got rid of him.

I don't give my mail carrier anything for Christmas.He gets paid well for doing his job.He does nothing extra for me.The mail in my developement is dropped off at a central location.All homeowners have keys to their own boxes.When I receive a heavy package I have to carry it myself to my door.My friend lives in a similar development & her carrier makes it a point to drop off heavy packages at individual homes!! She gives him a gift because of his extra efforts!!

We don't give our mailman anything for Christmas. Never ever even thought about it. I don't think anybody does in our area. I never got anything when I was working for Christmas. The attitude was it's your job. We don't even have the same mailman every day. Plus one day he will deliver our mail early afternoon the next day its 6 o'clock at night.

I'm usually give my mail lady $20, plus a little gift. Decided the gift this year would be that JoyM TSV on HSN today. I'll do the same for my newspaper lady.

I live in a high rise apartment building and have no idea who the mailperson is. Even if I did, no way would I "gift" him/her anything unless he/she had done a special service during the year.
