I don't think I would fall for any of these, because I always carefully read reviews. I did think iphone carefully reviewed their apps, though and am surprised to read this. Thanks for posting.

Just in time for holiday shopping, a spate of fake apps have appeared on Apple devices, mostly originating from China. "Caveat Emptor" (let the buyer beware).

Here's the link to a short NY Times article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/07/technology/more-iphone-fake-retail-apps-before-holidays.html?smid=nytcore-ipad-share&smprod=nytcore-ipad

Lucky for me that I would never use apps for shopping online. I don't even like to use the mobile versions of websites, and use the full version whenever possible.

Maybe it's just me, but I think most apps created to "make things easier" are a PITA.

I had an interesting thing happen over the weeked with (apparently) one of the "bazaar" sites.

There was an item I wanted, and the best deal came through one particular website. I ordered online, gave them all info. Next day I got what I thought was a very suspicious email from the company, not the website, asking for all my info all over again.

I emailed them back saying what is this, I'm not sending you anything in an email, you have my phone # anyway, etc.

They actually called me. They are a small company that sells on various websites, including Amazon. The CS person said that almost every order they receive *through that site* is fraudulent as to payment, so now they need to verify every order from that site. Wow.

Any warning is a good warning. You never know when someone needs a reminder to be careful.
