THE Perfect Answer For a Stupid Question

I was at a gathering at my Aunts home over the weekend with extended family members and old friends. One of the people there was a childhood friend of my cousin, let's call him "Tim."

My cousin had a fellow Attorney there with he family and their sons have also been friends since childhood. They are Seniors in college, Morehouse and Harvard.

"Harvard" brought along his lovely girlfriend from Iran. Well, "Tim" asks "Harvard's" girlfriend was she a terrorist (he thinks he's a comedian). With a straight face she replied, "only sometimes."

We all let out a sigh at "Tim's" stupidity and laughed because the young woman could have been defensive.

After that the young people played cards and "Tim" stayed away.

Wow that was horrible. My kneejerk response would be "harvard, you're an assp". Out loud.

We had a different instance over the weekend at a relative's house. It was the exact opposite, where the person was looking for pity and I just played along with it and gave it to them.

For someone to ask something that offensive to another total

stranger? That sends up some major red flags.

This isn't the first time he's said this...and greater than zero chance

he's practiced this among his friends who think the same...enough to feel comfortable. Has to be some deep seated, ugly beliefs to expand this to 'humor.'

The young lady was a class act.

'Tim', on the other hand, wouldn't be invited to play in

any of my 'reindeer games' after that!

Ridiculous. But at least it was nothing more than an inappropriate question, because in the past few weeks there has been a rise in hate crimes toward Muslims -- and immigrants.

I have no idea why.

"Tim" knows better. He is a top notch car salesman who does pretty well for himself. He had told us stories about experiencing his own prejudice. He's a clown and thought he was funny but his joke fell flat.

'tim' has a strange sense of humor. you have to be very careful these days. you can't be sure who you are really dealing with. we are living in a dangerous society.

"Tim" has been my cousin's childhood friend since they were eight years old and has always been the 'class clown.' His joke fell flat and a few of us wanted to let him have it.

I don't even know how the question of her country came about but I think "Tim" was in poor form.

Maybe he insulted her and he should think about THAT instead of being afraid of her after his question.
