What is UPS Surepost?

Does anyone know what that really is or mean? I have had a number of problems with their delivery. All of them are saying:

I am going to see a friend tomorrow who had recently moved so I did not have her new address. She loves Cheryl's cookies so I ordered them to come to my address. I live in a high rise and we have 24 hour front desk servise plus 24 hour security. The package arrived here in town on 11/24 and has been hanging around different post offices for about a week. When I checked the tracking status this morning, I found the following message.

The post office attempted delivery of your UPS Surepost package but the receiving business was closed.

This has happened several times in the past, but just can't be because there are several people available 24 hours/day.

Called QVC, but they have to forward my complaint to corporate.

Has that ever happened to anyone else?

@CLEM- UPS delivers it part of the way and then hands it off to the post office. The post office makes the final delivery. The handoff to the post office really slows things down.

Surepost was created by the Devil to piss off the public. Yes, yes it was.

The thing about Surepost is that no one likes it: Not UPS, not USPS and not the customers. Whomever thought this idea up and pitched it to the Powers That Be deserves to be punished (insert how right here>>>>>>>>>).

I'm not sure who determines if it goes Surepost as often, UPS would say "we are in your area and will deliver your package instead of Surepost". Well, then does that mean it depends on if UPS is out and about? I thought it was determined by the vendor. Plus, it can add on days to weeks for it to arrive. If you google it, there are posts about people following their package all over the place because of Surepost and watching leave their state over and over due to the contracts with UPS and USPS. I've done that and I just shook my head wondering HOW this saved anyone money.

Who knows but it SUCKS.

I get so annoyed with that.

If you're in my area to drop it off at the post office, just drop it off to my house. It adds another day to my delivery. Use one or the other, but not both carriers.

I guess I am lucky. I have only ever had a day added to my delivery when it's handed off to be delivered. Whenever I check tracking, it will say it arrived at my local UPS facility. Then that day it will either say it's on the truck for delivery or it will say it was handed off to Surepost for delivery. If that is the case, I get it the next day. Never an issue.

THE WORST FORM OF DELIVERY!!! Adds 2-5 extra days......as if no one wants to take responsibility for it. REALLY ALIENATES CUSTOMERS!

Nearly everything I purchase from the shopping channels is sent to me via UPS Surepost, and I have no problems with it at all. UPS brings it to their nearest station which is not very far from here. Mostly on weekdays they just take it to the local PO, and the PO delivers it to my door. If they have other deliveries in my area or it's one of those holidays where the PO doesn't deliver (but UPS does), like Veteran's Day, Columbus Day, etc.......UPS will deliver it directly to me, which means I get it sooner.

I've justhad a serum from Timeless get sent back to CA b/c of Surepost-couldnt be delivered? I'm home.

There were two times (that I can remember) where something I ordered was marked that it couldn't be delivered. One was when there was a substitute mail carrier, who either couldn't find my condo or, because it was late in the day, she decided not to bother with it. (I called my P.O. to find this out.) The other time it didn't get delivered was (per my P.O.) it had been put on the wrong mail truck and went back to the P.O. Most of the time when it take more than 4-6 days for an item to arrive, it's because the seller didn't send it out until 3-5 days after I ordered it (not mentioning any names here!).

I dislkike Surepost because we have a mail room. If a package is too large to fit in one of the boxes, the post office returns the package to their facility without first notifying me and I have to make a 38 mile round trip to pick it up.

I absolutely think it should stop immediately. I use my street address (out in the country) and when something is shipped UPS I expect to find it sitting on my front porch. But no.....................they hand it off to the post office where the package is placed out in the box on the road. If I wanted it shipped by usps I would have given them my PO Box number. Lots of mail theft is done out in the country from the boxes on the road/hwy.

I'm positive the U.S.P.S. loves it. This service benefits them @SahmIam. They had to get creative in order to stop losing so much money.

Wow! So many people having problems. I really wonder why they are still in business and who they really are.

I found out that 4 other people in my building received the same message that I did today so that makes 5. I guess out of about 650 apartments in the building one could argue that really aren't many.

@itiswhatitis That's what I thought but I've spoken to our long-time carrier as well as the manager at my local post office and a long-time employee there (20 years of seeing the same people, lol). NONE of them like it and the number of problems they have is amazing.

One of the biggest is the damage done to boxes by UPS that are then handed off to to the USPS. The manager was telling me that she spends more time documenting it that anything else and often takes pictures because customers assume it's the USPS that is destroying the boxes! I know she's telling the truth because I've seen the difference, I've called and complained to the vendors (HSN and QVC at times) and taken pictures as well especially when one box arrived from UPS and one was handed off to USPS the day before (both delivered the same day). Came from the same warehouse, contained the same merchandise just a different shade. HOLY COW the Surepost was destroyed!!! The UPS one was fine.

Now I notice the difference every time.
