Price Gouging?

Has anyone seen any price gouging this season? There was a pair of shoes I wanted on amazon and darn! the seller raised them $75.00!!!

I have seen price increases on things for two dollars or so, but never anything like this!!!

That is not really price gouging. It us more like supply and demand.

Price gouging would be raising prices like that on a necessity.

@ECBG, sorry for your experience. Last week I had the exact opposite thing on Amazon. I bought a pair of leather Keds for $22.48. I looked at them a couple of days ago and in my size they were up to $49.56. If I were you, I'd put the shoes you want in your shopping cart and keep checking on the price. Amazon is very good about notifying of a price change up or down. Good luck.

I've learned to put items on my wish list on Amazon and to check prices several time a week. Last I bought my three daughters and daughter in law china tea sets. the brand and patterns that I had picked out had a high price of $200 and I waited patiently and got two of them for $80.

In my state during the hurricane and when the pipeline in Alabama broke and we didn't have gas for 3 days. The ones who were lucky to get gas, paid a high price for it. These companies were later fined.

I don't call that price gouging, they just increased the price by a lot. I think of price gouging as increasing prices by ridiculous amount of money for product or service that is vital health or life. Like the Epipen situation.

Is Amazon the only place the shoes are available?

Is there something extra special about the shoes, @ECBG, like they were featured in a magazine or on a tv show? That's quite a hike!

@tansyThey were a designer brand and here, right before the start of the holiday "attack" on shopping, the company selling them hiked the prices! (There has not been a lot in each size). (Eyebrow raise!).

Amazon has high prices on somethings all year long. I would want to know what the price was several months ago with this particular seller to tell. Many people on here have mentioned that to others many times in the past, to always check other retailers because of that. So many people think that Amazon always has the best prices and that isn't the case at all.

The free dictionary has the definition as pricing above the market price when no alternative retailer is available. I don't think that would fit that definition.

These are Hatchimals, the toy for Xmas 2016. They retail for about $50 but are popular and hard to find. I've seen them on Amazon and eBay for $150-200. This brings back unpleasant memories of me standing in line years ago to buy an original Cabbage Patch doll.

LOL...I had two boys so I escaped the Cabbage Patch doll craze. That Hatchimal is awful cute though🙂

@tansyThank you. Yes. No where else. That tells me they were last yer, however, they "fit the bill" in every way. I'm thinking they won't go at this high price even though I wear the most popular size. (Sigh...).

This happens in November on Amazon every year because of the holidays. That's why I buy all Christmas presents and anything we need in October where the prices on Amazon are the cheapest all year. I save and track the prices of items I want to get and a few years ago figured out most retailers do the same thing by increasing the price then giving you a 30% off coupon so you think you are getting a good deal when in fact you are paying more than the item was in October. I bought a few things in Best Buy on sale and a friend came over and wanted the same item so she went to Best Buy and the price increased by more than 50%
