Received Telephone Spam Call On Cell Phone

I have never received a spam call on my cell phone before today. I always answer calls on my cell phone even if I don't recognize the number, because it's never been a problem.

This morning I answered, and a woman started immediately trying to sell me something. She continued to talk while I was telling her I wasn't interested and hung up on her. This is so irritating. I like to give my cell phone # to people so they can easily reach me. I guess I'll have to start giving my home phone # again so that I can block the calls. Do the rest of you receive many spam calls on your cell phones?

DH and I no longer have a "home phone." We gave it up about a year ago and just use our cells. The spam phone calls started about 3 months ago. I don't answer any number I don't recognize, then look it up on the computer, and 9 times out of 10 it's spam so I then block the number on my cell.

I've been getting them for maybe a year now. They come in "spurts"...every day for weeks, and then nothing for a stretch. If a name from my contact list doesn't show up, I don't answer.

I do get spam calls on my cell once in a while. I just block the number and they don't usually try again.

And I never answer my cell if I don't recognize the caller. So my spam calls always go to voicemail.

Yes I get them all the time. You can block the number after the fact, so they can only call you from that # once.

Yes I get them sometimes. I'm not a person who is "attached" to my cell, I really don't use it that much, so they usually show up as a "missed call." I really hate it when they leave a message in my voicemail, though, or actually send me a text solicitation. My phone is cheap (pay as you go), but that also means it's actually costing me money if I answer one of them (I usually don't).

I still have a landline and get plenty of them there too, although my Nomorobo usually cuts them off. Sometimes I actually get them at work, as we all have individual direct dial numbers there!

I get them from time to time. I immediately block the number.

I've been getting spam texts now. I have to go in and block that number.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize you could block #'s on your cell phone. I just went in and blocked the number that called me this morning. I'm going to quit answering calls that I don't recognize the #. I never answer calls I don't recognize on my home phone, but it's never been necessary before on my cell.

No, because I never give it out other than to family. I always use my home phone which gets plenty of spam.

When I do get a spam call on my cell, I just mark it as spam so this number can never call me back and delete if from my log. I get my first 2 incoming minutes free so it doesn't cost me either. Old Sprint plan.

My husband received approximately a dozen spam calls a week on his cell phone, I have both our home phone and his cell phone registered on the "Do Not Call List", it has cut down on the calls, but does not stop them, but usually when you inform them that your number is on the "Do Not Call List" and that you want your number removed for any future calls and that you are reporting them they stop calling, not always, but it does help, in my experience anyway.

I received an interesting call on my cell phone. It was a 1-800 number, so I ignored it and the message. It turned out to be from my home security system company. The alarm had been accidentally tripped, and I came home to find police in my driveway. Luckily I was not charges for the police call. I entered the number in my contacts, but called the security company to complain.

Today I get a phone call on my home phone. There is THAT delay you get on spam calls....then finally someone picks up the phone....I hear a call center in the background.....the person asks for my Husband....I ask "who is calling?" The caller says "Oscar". I say "what can I do for you Oscar." He says "can I speak with *****". and he says my husband's name. I said my husband was not available. I said "what is this concerning? I can tell you are calling from a call center....so give me the message or I will call block you." He said he needed to speak with my husband......so I said OK call block. And I did.

Anyone who is an actual important call will say who they are when they call. Love call block!

I have been getting them regularly for about a year. On average 5 a week, many like clock work, when my phone rings on Thursday at 1:00 -1:30 it is a spam call, etc ,etc.

I have given up blocking them, I did for about 6 months and then I realized it was not making any difference.....

No big deal I just do not answer.

There are bigger problems in the world!

I don't know if all carriers do this, but T-Mobile allows you to change your cell number. I think it is every 90 days.

I have changed my number twice. Once when I was text-stalked by a stranger, and another time when I kept getting odd voicemails from someone I did not know.

If you even answer robo calls, you get put on a possible sucker list and they'll call over and over.

I rarely use my cell and have it set to only accept incoming calls from those in my contacts, strictly immediate family members and two friends.

I recently looked at my call log and was surprised to see about 40 incoming calls registered in the log. Some of the calls listed were months old.

Because my cell doesn't ring and no missed call notification is given for calls that come in from any number that isn't in my contacts until I saw the log I foolishly thought I wasn't getting any garbage calls. I check the call log weekly.

@country gal, I'm not sure, but I think it might depend on what kind of phone your husband has.

On my phone - not a smartphone - blocking is one of the options on the phone call menu.

@country gal, blocking calls isn't through your carrier, it's an option on the phone itself. Most phones - androids, smartphones, flip phones have the option to block or reject calls.
