Thickening Shampoo.....

Is there a thickening shampoo that actually makes your hair appear thicker? I'm 66 years old, and wear my hair short. Have noticed over the past year it's really thinning out at the temples. I take meds for blood pressure and high cholesterol...just asking if I could be using a shampoo that would make my hair appear a little thicker.....not looking for miracles...thank you...

My hair is very thin also....at this point to give myself a little more body in the hair i use Redken GUTS 10.....it is a spray type mousse/foam i spray in the crown of my hair

after shampooing.... it does help.....and i wouldn't want to be without it at this point....hope you find something that makes you feel better....

The Nick Chavez Plump & Thick line is really good for this issue. The shampoo and conditioner are wonderful, then follow with his Plump & Thick hairspray.

It's hard to beat!

As far as shampoos, no. I've tried at least half a dozen, probably more, from drugstore to salon to high end, and none of them have made my hair appear or feel thicker. Styling products may, but they also give me dandruff, so I rarely use them.

Thank you, Kelsey. I've never been a vain person, but I guess I thought my full head of thick hair would last forever...this getting old thing sucks!

@nana59I'm your age and take some heavy duty meds and I started taking Consult Beaute Caps for replenishment of skin, hair and nails. This product has done wonders for my thinning hair, but nothing for my nails and I have been blessed with good skin. The supplement takes a few months to see a difference and if it works for you, you have to continue taking them. In the mean time though, the Nick Chavez products that someone else mentioned is very good.

Do you use conditioner? If you do, try omitting that step and see if your hair *thickens*.

Lots of times conditioner makes hair look too thin/flat.

Especially since you have short hair, shouldn't be a problem to go without. Use a leave-in conditioner/spray if you really need it.

I understand......i have ALWAYS had straight thin hair...so have always tried to find something to help with body......good luck...hope you find the perfect product!

I have thickening shampoos and volume shampoos but the best product I use is Aquage thickening spray gel. I wear my hair short too and this spray gel really works plus it's not sticky and rinses out (no build up). You can buy at salons that carry Aquage products or find it on EBay. It should run around $18 a bottle which will last a long, long time.

I second the vote for Guts. I am 69, fine hair, now thinning. This stuff has been a lifesaver for me. I also use Kenra 25 hair spray, and between the two, my hair looks uch better. Good luck on finding something that works for you. None of the shampoos ever did me any good.

I swear by Thicker Fuller Hair - Shampoo, Conditioner, Thickening Serum. I've used it for years and the only thing that works.

I wash my hair everyday - but only have to use this about every two or three days.

I heard about a trick on a web site and tried, so simple, and after trying it for two weeks I have noticed a difference, wash hair with creme rinse then shampoo, that's it, try it

I too have fine, thin, short hair.

My last try after multiple others was the Nick Chavez Plump & Thick products, shampoo and leave-in thickening spray. I initially thought it might be having some effect, but realized it really wasn't.

It might make a difference how long your hair is and what you do (blow dry, brush/iron, etc) to it for styling whether the products produce a visual difference. On my short hair nothing worked any better than any random styling spray.

KatCat1--have used thickening gels in the past...all I get is a holding gel look...does this particular gel make your hair look thicker, or just act like a holding gel.....thanks for your help...

Have you ever tried a shot of dry shampoo especially at your temples?

I've used a brand that I can't think of the name of for the life of me (Kenra maybe?).

But when I've used it, it makes my fine hair tooooo thick.

Ojon used to make a really good one, not sure if they still do.

I recently started using Pantene Pro V Age Defy shampoo,, conditioner, and Advanced Thickening Treatment. Am seeing a big difference in my hair which is grey, short, and thinning.

This shampoo did add volume for me. Never tried the conditioner.

I'm 62 and have baby fine, thin hair. I wear it short too. I use KMS Texturizing shampoo or Paul Mitchell Clarifying 3 shampoo. They are nothing alike but both seem to make my hair feel a little thicker. I towel dry and spray KMS Texture spray on the roots and then rub it around so it is on all my hair. I work parttime now and if I'm scheduled, I use a small dab of Joico Firm gel, rub it on my hands and then only on the roots of the bangs and the crown.

I never ever use conditioner. When your hair is short, you have a lesser chance of dry ends etc. And conditioner will only soften your hair which is the opposite of what you want.

When you blow dry/style your hair, do NOT use a brush once you start blow drying. The more you brush/comb, the softer your hair becomes and you lose whatever body and help the products gave you. I might touch up a couple of spots with a brush after blow drying but my hair doesn't need more than that.
