CARPET SWEEPER & A HAND VAC

Hi, I'm looking for recommendations for both.

We have two long hair cats and I want something easy for quick cleaning instead of always dragging out a heavy vac. Even my lightweight vac is a problem with my hand and arm injuries.

Any suggestions? I see Dirt Devils still get good ratings for a hand vac. I remember cleaning my grandmother's rug with an old carpet sweeper which worked like a charm. No batteries, no plug.

I grew up w/a carpet sweeper-good fast cleanup when needed. I like the Shark hand vac and it survived where 2 DustBusters bit the dust(pun intended).

Sounds like a winning and easy combo for during the week when a vacuum is too much.

I remember my mother always using a carpet sweeper and I was just saying the other day that I would like to get one. Hope there are some good recommendations posted.

Thanks for the tips @maestra ! ITA, those carpet sweepers were fabulous! One of our kitties is white and leaves fur bits all over the floor. The other is mostly black and brown and leaves her fur on white kitchen curtains since she always sneaks into the kitchen and looks out the window. I'm tired of going over it with a lint brush, I'd hope a hand vac would be faster.

Hi @twinsister

They were great, especially when you just needed to run over a small space. I checked some out this morning and they have them with batteries or a cord. I just want the old fashioned kind that won't weigh much.

I love my Swivel Sweeper (Amazon) and my Dust Buster I've had for years. The hair will get caught up in the sweeper (but not as bad as others I've owned), so just be sure to get as much out as you can after each use.

THANK YOU! I'll look into that one, too. Does it also sweep up chunks of things? I don't know how they do it, but I find pieces of dry cat food on the rugs all the time.

Yes, it does a great job. Very easy to maneuver and lightweight. I can sweep my kitchen and living room probably 3-4 times before I have to recharge the battery. The rechargable battery (unless they've upgraded it since I bought mine) is a little lacking. There is no on/off light that tells you when it's fully charged. The instructions say to not leave it charging for more than 8 hours, so I usually try to plug mine in before I go to bed, then unplug it when I get up. Charger gets plugged in by the coffee pot so I will see it!!

@Katwilks I bought something identical from HSN. It was great at first, but then the battery didn't charge and it didn't pick up at all.

The Fuller carpet sweeper has really good reviews, too! I have the Bissell one...battery-free, push by hand and it's great. The brush comes out for easy cleaning.

I hope they don't all have batteries, I'd like the really old fashioned kind. I really don't know anything about them though, I assume you have to take out the brush and wash it every so often.

DH is going to do some research online about the choices.

If you want the old-fashion kind without a battery then look for "ELECTROSTATIC" carpet sweepers....these don't have any batteries in them.

@SilleeMee - I just ordered the Fuller sweeper. Looks good. Thanks so much for posting the item number! I think the one my mother had was a Bissell and she had it for years.

@Noel7 -The Fuller sweeper looks like a smaller version of the one my mother had. Can't wait to get it!

I'm right handed. Broke a finger on my right hand a year ago August. It never healed.

Damaged my right arm last June. Unbelievable! I am not a clumsy person, or I didn't used to be, LOL.

Using the Sharke vacuum yesterday was the last straw. We have it down to the lowest setting and it still hurts to push.

If you ever need to replace the "brush" then amazon has them. They are'nt really a brush but a roller:

I think this would be easier to keep clean than a brush. Looks wonderful.
