Christmas Cards

Seriously I used to go through an entire box of cards, maybe 2, remember the piles of cards dumped in the mailbox?

Today, I think I send a total of 3 and that's pushing it for me.

If you are on a list for charities, a lot of them send you a pack of 10 really nice cards but this year, I bought an entire box of some really nice cards (was surprised) for $1 and change from Walmart and thought even if I go to the dollar store and get the .50 cards, I'm still better off with an entire box just incase I may need another one or two.

I think maybe in one or two generations, they'll be saying, what were those Christmas cards all about?

@Mistreatedbycs, you've sent three more than I have, or will! I stopped sending them years ago. I have an old box of them left over and the only reason I use them is to tip my mail carrier and the sanitation guys!

I still send them but not as many as I used to. I don't send them to people I will see over the Holiday season. Most of my cards go out of state. I always write a personal note in them so it takes awhile. I also love to get them!

I agree they will be a thing of the past. The rising cost of postage and cards plus having a nice handwritten style is not something people want to spend time doing. Sadly, seems a nice little courtesy like the cards is a reflection of where things have gone.

I have some of the nicest cards that were reprints from the early 1900's. They're still in the closet!

they look like nice sets of greeting cards. i dont really send out holiday cards anymore, but i do use them for gift cards or cash.......or to give to those people that provide services and "keep me beautiful" all year long. LOL

i do like the all occasion cards and may get a set of those.

I think I'm down to sending about 10 Christmas cards a year now. People lose touch with one another or sadly pass away. A friend I've known for 50 years sent me an e-card for my birthday this year. The first time she hasn't mailed a regular card, even though I mailed her one. It felt very weird to me.

I haven' t sent cards in many years....those cards are pretty but people have to keep in mind they will have to put extra postage on them...not sure if Rick mentioned it....but I thought of it immediately when i seen all those doo-dads on them....and then i read the description and it said some may require extra postage...

I still send Christmas cards, birthday cards, etc. I will send them as long as they exist!

I think they are more personable than wishing someone good wishes on the Internet.

Now, I don't send as many because a lot of my relatives (parents, aunts, uncles) are deceased, but I still send them to friends and other family.

I buy my children, grandchildren, husband, and in laws "personal" Christmas cards (and birthday cards). And they do the same.

And all other relatives and friends get regular type cards.

I can remember when the post office had two deliveries per day plus Sunday for the month of December because of the volume of mail.

I send about 15 cards now, each with a short note.

I still send Christmas cards (and birthday cards and sympathy cards and Easter cards, etc).

We'll be sending 60 cards this year. As long as I'm well enough to do it, I'm going to send cards.

I feel like a dinosaur. I seem to get more and more cards every year. I go through at least 3 boxes. And I still miss a few people.

I am so glad people send the cards and I enjoy reading the notes they enclose.

I remember my parents sent out at least 200 cards. It was quite a production and consumed our dining room table for weeks. They had about 10 typewritten pages with all the addresses.

I make my own -- or let's say I have them printed using one of my photographs. I get a lot from other fine art photo friends. People love them. I still send just as many as I ever did...maybe more!

I make my own cards and send out about 30. I don't care how many I receve. I enjoy everything about the cards...making them, writing a note, and sending them. Hope the recipients enjoy them.

OMG, you just brought back childhood memories. Cards were a production and it took over our kitchen table for days. My mom had the same typewritten list of addresses, about 150. My dad was a printer so he did the cards, ALWAYS with a family picture.

I haven't bought boxed cards in a long time. We hand pick cards for immediate family and that's it.

I still like looking at them in various stores, though.

@gidgetgh, I too will do the sympathy cards. Our family has really shrunk.

In a way, I really miss the cards. It was one time a year, it more fun to go to the mailbox. The cards were so pretty too. I liked to see what people chose each year to represent themselves. I do have to say I miss it.
