Shark Tank last night- Parker's Maple Syrup

Anyone watch Shark Tank last night? I liked the segment for the boy who invented Parker's Maple Syrup. I was hoping he'd get a deal, but he didn't. Hopefully the exposure he got from being on the show will help send his company on the path to great success. I like stories like his.

I just placed an order on his site for the small Maple Butter and one of the cotton candy's. I'm not a jam, jelly or butter spread kind of girl but I hope my husband will enjoy it.

I also thought that he was a terrific young man and was sorry that no one partnered with him. I have looked at his website and will be ordering. Everyone raved about the maple cotton candy, but I will probably pass on that one. I always need quality maple syrup. Looking forward to getting it.

I also watched, and wrote down his name. I am diabetic, but thought some of his products would make great gifts. He was someone that I would have chosen to support.

So he was selling his cotton candy for $1.50 and his cost was .45 so Mark C said, no way, you can mark it up to $2.99 and he said he was going to make the adjustment..............

.....and I looked last night, his cotton candy is now $5.00!!!!!

Crazy what a little fame does

and I don't call that capitalism, I call it plain good old fashioned Greed.

i really liked that kid!

i was hoping he would get a partner also. i could see lori selling that here on qvc actually.

i am hoping he is profitable enough to make this his profession going forward.

on a side note, i did find that womans microwave silicone item here on qvc. i have never seen it presented before, but you just had to know that lori would bring it on here. i might order that also.

Not greed, IMO. Good business. If there's a market for the product at that price, yay for the kid. Perhaps it will help to provide the $$ he needs to grow his company.

I can't do sugar but everyone was over the moon about that cotton candy. Great gift and perfect timing. I hope the kid makes it on his own.

Too bad someone didn't help him out last night. I just went to his website and bought a few things. The Cotton Candy sounds yummy too. That's not too high for a special treat. Hope he does real well!!

Not greed, IMO. Good business. If there's a market for the product at that price, yay for the kid. Perhaps it will help to provide the $$ he needs to grow his company.

@nomless Yes, and all the expenses he will have to run the business, pay his own expenses and pay all his taxes.

@gidgetgh I didn't watch the show and I don't like anything maple (except Lori Goldstein clothes in maple! LOL), but wanted to say it was nice of you to place an order. How old is the boy?

@Pearlee He started at age 11. He's 18 now. If you're interested, he has his story on his site, parkersmaple with the usual ending after that.

The amount of free advertising that kid got just being on the show far out weighs the $80k he was looking for. Plus he kept all his equity. I don't feel bad for him

Can't understand why this young guy thought Shark Tank would be interested in investing. If you know the Northeast - like I do - there is a syrup business on every corner with a 25 mile span. Vermont maple syrup - New York maple syrup - Maine maple syrup. A little spun cotton candy is a new idea but not one to make it interesting for NY City millionaire investors. Oh well, he got to see the big apple, and be on TV. Good Luck to him.

@fthunt- I guess the producers thought his product was good enough to warrant a coveted slot. Good for him. And I believe that Shark Tank is filmed in L.A.

I watched it and think the enterpreneur has a lot going for him

But that said....going from $1.50 to $5.00 on one item, just because you've been on Shark Tank? I'm not seeing this as a good move, and I won't be buying anything he's selling.

His product is not "special" it's maple syrup. He also tried to hide the fact that he's "banking" on Costco cutting him multiple purchase orders vs just the one Costco. Barbara explained Costco's practices that they will try out a new product in generally one store and it may take years for the product to go into all the rest of the stores. That's just the way Costco operates.

Inflating your balance sheet is not something you want to walk into the Shark Tank with.

As far as the cotton candy price, it's priced too high to the consumer, $2.99 or even $3.99 is high enough being you are far better with a lower priced high margin product. the consumer will buy more vs selling it for $5 you probably would only order quantity one and probably never go back to ordering again.

Just my experience from my business, all my competition went out of business within the last 10 years because they over priced their product and people just didn't come back.

Another example the wine from Kevin on Shark Tank, if he sold his wine for $100 per bottle, you would probably think twice about ordering or maybe splurge for one bottle vs him selling his wine for $10-$15 per bottle, you'll keep ordering if it continues to be available.
