Kirsten is doing it again!

So, I'm watiching QVC and ordered the Jimmy Falon football shirts. What comes on next? The Stanley Power Fat Max. I have one and I love it. Here's my problem. Why does Kirsten continually say "Even a girl can do it" I find this insulting!!! Very insulting. This isn't the first time she's done this. I believe it was this past summer when she said it and I gasped. I should have written then. Here we are now in October and she's at it again. Are "girls" too stupid to handle this tool? Are "girls" too weak to lift it and attach it to the car battery? This is 2016 QVC, what gives!!! And I won't even go into the insult of being called a "girl". Come on!

@mcanio She's trying to sell the product to you. I agree that the "even girls" is a thing of the past. She and others need to come up with some new phrases. I guess it's hard to talk about an item over and over without saying something that annoys some of us.

Geez......just relax..........taking ever single tag line and taking offense is a waste of energy......I swear if someone said good morning to some people, they'd be offended. This is home shopping, not congress. Go ahead and think what you wish, but I'm so over all this knit-picking at every single word. She probably was trying to make the point that if there were SOME women (not you OP) who might think that they wouldn't be able to use it, that it would be easy for them to use.

I don't let words offend me.............it's actions that offend me.

Kerstin's comment didn't bother me, but it definitely caught my ear as a tired old cliche that she needs to retire for good. I don't get too attached to what the hosts say in their sales pitch frenzy. But I won't go so far as to say none of their words could possibly ever bother me; no one gets that blank check. However, as offending statements go, this one does not rank high up there on my annoyed scale.

Even in this day and age, many things still remain male/female things! You do not see many women getting excited about tools and using them or even wanting to use them(even though capable of it)- just as there are still far more women who do most of the household chores (even though men can also do these things). Most boys are still being raised to do man things (fixing things, etc) while most girls still gravitate to what was considered women things! I still would hesitate to use some tools and do certain chores as I wasn't raised understanding a lot of the mechanics and know how of using such tools - just as my SO who does cook and clean and does laundry but stays away from many kitchen tools. It is a person's choice to allow themselves to be insulted by any statement a host makes but there are more serious things that are said that are insulting and really matter!

I have to say I agree with the OP. "Even a girl"? Does she mean a 10-year-old? Or does she mean a woman?

Either way, it's a poor choice of words. I hope she isn't passing that attitude on to her children. Some things can be dismissed as a "sales ploy". This isn't one of them, IMO, as it just perpetuates outdated stereotypes.

Just for the record, I have a different version of the product she was showing. I've used it many times to start dead batteries in vehicles without the help of a "man". And I drive my own plow truck, too. Will wonders never cease?

I think...that any phrase that even sounds the tiniest demeaning about "girls" or "women" in general, has alot to do with the state of what this country is going thru at the moment politically. I have to admit, that I am more sensitive to that as of late, while normally, I wouldn't even blink twice. Don't you think? I have a SIL who has always been really vocal about being called a "girl"---she is a "woman" and doesn't like being referenced as a girl, altho, she was one once. I'm sure her teeth are grinding now. I'm not that rigid but I am just a little irritated and hope this won't be a lasting thing. So nasty out there--shocking really!!

It's the "even a..." part that gets me. The "girl" part, eh, I'm sort of neutral. If you divide people into boys and girls, then, well... it is what it is... Of course, it's just as easy to speak of an adult audience in terms of men and women... or to simply say "anyone can learn to use it"...

Despite their apparent craving of a younger demographic, QVC seems to be a repoistory for all things passe... both in terms of their products and their attitudes...

Nevertheless, if you find comments like this so upsetting that you need to rant about it, next time place your thread in the Suggestion Box section. JMO

People on this board get insulted at the most trivial things. I think she meant not many females have an interest in or any knowledge of mechanical things. Sheesh.

EXACTLY........!!!!

It's like QVC wants to take 2 steps forward, in the terms of attracting a younger demographic and being considered up to date-(in terms f social media etc)...., yet in reality they take 10 steps backwards in terms of sales techniques and the way they run their company....and thus experiencing failure on all angles.....
