I'm too paranoid so I always grab my keys and lock my doors while I pump the gas. I first heard of this crime sometime back so I was already aware of it but even before that, I always locked my vehicle, even when I'm right there. I don't trust anyone.

Even before I heard of the term "sliders", I always lock my car, even when I am right there pumping the gas, and I am always looking around as I do.

To me, it's just common sense to do that.

Thank you ver much for the video! I wear a crossbody bag, and its

always worn on my shoulder or crossbody. There are so many women that leave their purses unattended while shopping, especially when grocery shopping. I usually mention to them not to leave their purse unattended. Last Christmas season while at Costco, I left my purse on the bench seat after I finished eating. Got home, parked and went to grab my bag which wasn't there. I

called Costco immediately, security had my purse, someone handed it in, and I was certainly fortunate. I know who it was, two young men who sat next to me who I was having a conversation with. Nothing taken or used (CC's). But, as a precaution, I did call my banks and canceled my credit and debit cards. Better safe than sorry😉

another thing to be careful of is sticking your purse in the trunk while you load your groceries in there. Theives are fast!

That crime is old news, but it's always good to remind everyone. Like another poster, I always keep my keys and bag on me. If it is coat season, the bag is under my coat.

Thank you for your post and video.... I spent a lot of years going all over So. Ca and ALWAYS locked my doors, kept my keys in my pocket when I pumped gas. I'm glad to see this dirty trick get recognition.

Another trick are smash and grabs.... where you'll be at a stop light and someone comes up and crow bars your window to grab your purse. Never put it on the passenger seat or on the passenger side floor. Always put it to the left of your leg by your door, pushed back to the seat. It doesn't interfere with your driving and no one can see it from the windows

I live in an area now where people are very trusting, leave cars unlocked (sometimes running while they run into WalMart during winter).... doors unlocked, think the best of people most of the time and deal business honestly and with a handshake.... I love it.... but I still lock my car and house!

I don't think the solution is wear cross body...lol I think the solution is keep the passenger door locked. Which I always do and always have. From childhood, I remember my dad saying "lock those doors". So it has always been automatic with me. My passenger gets out, I lock that door. To be honest, I thought everyone did that. Everyone I know does it, especially in parking lots and garages. So, yeah....keep your doors locked. Even still, I do not keep my bag on the seat next to me. I always put it on the floor. I guess I was never a risk taker, I never just assumed that bad things only happen to other people. I have always been a "what if" type of person.

With holiday shopping about to begin, we should also be reminded that car trunks are easier to break into than car doors. Be very mindful of your surroundings if stashing purchases in your trunk then leaving the car parked there to continue shopping.

Also, we had a neighbor whose house was burglarized and utterly ransacked one Christmas season. She is convinced someone surreptitiously watched her unload shopping bags from her car as it was parked in her driveway. She was robbed during broad daylight the next day.

I live in an area where crime is high...drive-by shootings, stabbings and robberies are happening way too often. I cannot live my life constantly having to look over my shoulder. That's maddening to me. I do my thing with common sense and with awareness of my surroundings. Life is too short to worry about what ifs.

There are so many awful things to watch out for and worry about it just makes my head spin. Sometimes, I guess I'm paranoid if someone(M or F) keeps being everywhere I go in a store or when I'm driving and a car takes all the same turns that I do I will head for a public place instead of my intended destination. We do have to be aware of our surroundings, parking lots and garages, everywhere. I keep my keys in my pocket if I have one and keep my purse close but I know it doesn't always work out. Thieves are smart and know all of the angles.

Thanks for the reminder as it might save someone a lot of trouble and grief.

I never heard of it either. I don't think it's a big thing but apparently, they park next to you and yank your passenger door open and grab your bag. I don't know what happens if they yank that door and it's locked. Slink back to their own car and wait for another potential victim....

My car automatically locks the doors while I'm going down the driveway. Once I park the car and open my door, the other three doors remained locked unless I push the button to unlock all doors.

I learned this from "The Gift of Fear",if you're in a parking lot, use your key to open your driver side door, all the rest will remained locked.

My car is new, works with a fob instead of a key. Am I correct that even if the door is locked, but I am standing near it (with the fob on my being) anyone can open a door?

i understand how you feel about having to have eyes in the back of your head all the time. I'm sure you take as much precaution as you can due to the circumstances. anchirage has had 26 killings so far this year. I always try to be "aware" of my surroundings and take precautions no matter where I am. Before I leave my home, I pray for a safe day and return...for everyone👼

I think the smartest thing I've done to thwart parking lot robbers is to use Lori Grenier's waistband pouch. It fits between the in and outside of your pants and is held by a very strong maget. Nobody can see it and you don't feel it. It's enough to hold some cash, dr lic, credit card, a few key but not a huge cell phone. The magnet doesn't affect credit cards. It's all I use for the grocery store. Bonus: you're hands free.
