Evine Eyes Studio Space In NY, Beverly Hills, Post Says

It appears that Evine is looking beyond the cold, snowy landscape of Minnesota.

The New York Post reported that the No. 3 home shopping network is seeking out studio space in the Big Apple and Beverly Hills.

The goal is to make it easier for celebs to appear on the network to hawk their wares. Seriously, who wants to fly to Minneapolis in the winter?

We suspect that Evine’s newest investors, designer Tommy Hilfiger and record mogul Tommy Mottola, are critical to this plan. They are among a group of investors that just poured $10 million into Evine, cheddar that will apparently foot the bill for new studios.

According to the Post, Evine is looking to have a street-level studio where the public could peer in the see the home shopping network’s broadcasts.

As the tabloid pointed out, this may give Evine a bit of a leg up on QVC and HSN, where vendors have to hoof it to West Chester, Pa., and St. Petersburg, Fla., to appear on-air.

Will be interesting to see what changes they may bring to their company. Maybe they can make their shipping more consistent and a little more inline with the other shopping channels. Thank you for the post.

They'll need much more than a $10 million investment. Real estate square footage and taxes are enormous in New York and Beverly Hills. Talk about sticker shock compared to Minnesota. The move does make sense though.

I don't think West Chester, PA is much of a burden for QVC vendors though. It's an hour and a half drive from NYC, and the really successful vendors buy 2nd homes in PA to negate even that commute.

I think moving to either coast would benefit Evine in almost every area. Yes, it would be easier and more attractive for celebrity vendors. It would help attract new show hosts. MN must be a hard sell when they are recruiting show hosts. NYC puts them closer to the show rooms and manufacturers and the fashion industry in general. Shipping would, no doubt, be faster. I suppose that open window concept might be attractive to some tourists, like the people who for some odd reason, stand outside in the street on the Today Show. I never understood that...lol Who goes to to NYC to peer into a window or stand on a street corner at the crack of dawn to see other people work...lol And the # 3 shopping channel...I don't see the draw there.

Personally I have never liked nor have been drawn to "celebrity" products.....I think basically a celebrity lends their name to a line with little or no input to the product itself......just a way to make a quick buck (I think Joan Rivers was the exception she really knew the design and lines of her clothing and she specifically told the audience what her input was on the designing of her clothes/jewelry etc...) So basically I don't give a darn on what Evine does to make it easier for their "celebrity vendors" to travel to their studios...................If Evine puts a priority and a ton of money on celebrity endorsements thinking it will help their business, they must really be hard up!....Interesting!

That's not always the case, but it is most of the time. Serena Williams doesn't lend her name for anything. She did in fact study the trade. I can't think of any others (oops Melissa McCarthy too).

There are soooo many though. Some who pair up with cosmetic companies and more.

If they want to compete with the big two, they will need to step up their fashion game big time. These two locations will help in that regard.

It is the Q. The Q sells in other countries, no other channel does this.

I like Evine and I think it's a smart move. Their best vendors come from either coast. Beekman Boys from NY, Consulte beaute from California, and so on. There are plenty of real estate deals they could make as far as leasing goes in NYC or the surrounding areas.

Just like with QVC, I wish they would get more vendors and or bring back the ones we loved.

ETA: I looked it up. Yes he was on HSN. He sold his fragrance out in 15 minutes. The host was Callie Northagen. I'm not sure if he appeared just once or more times.

@Q4u Amen. To the celebrities, I would say, cry me a river. I wish I had a job that allowed me to fly all over to sell my wares. I think the celebrities need to just do their job -- sell, sell, sell, and enjoy the profits. Besides, aren't they usually escorted and driven all over, to and from their appearances? Dress appropriately, be it Minnesota, Pennsylvania, or Florida where you're going, and be GLAD you even have a job, and can provide for yourself, your family, etc.

Our cable system dropped that channel quite a while ago. I'm not up do date. What happened to Kathy Levine? "EVINE LIVE" was supposedly derived from her name and she was the "front-person" for the operation. Is she gone?

Hi Cherry....QVC is the number 1 channel (but sales have been on the decline from the second quarter and on into June (there is a thread about it on the Forums with quotes from QVC's CEO and another Q Executive in Q Talk and in Fashion)....the third quarter results should come out soon...HSN is #2,and Evine is listed as #3......
