I live in an area with a world-famous year-round "haunted house." Currently they are of course running special evening tours to capitalize on Halloween. Note "No clowns" among their costume rules.

I'm not sure why, but I really don't care for clowns, and I've never found them a bit funny. Some are creepy, but most just seem dumb. JMO.

I have never feared clowns (and don't now), but I've never "gotten" them either. Even when I was say, under 8-9 and saw a circus with "classic" clowns I thought they were stupid, and didn't see the point - and I was the age group they were aimed at.

How did he do good?

I've known a lot of kids who cried when they saw him. Out of all the kids my girl grew up with, she was one of the few that didn't freak when they saw a clown.

You're not alone, a lot of people don't like clowns and they've gotten a bad rep over the years from "It" and so many other horror clown stories and movies.

I thought they were stupid also, but I was never afraid of them.

I remember DD watching Mr. Rogers trying to explain scary makeup to kids. They instinctively don't like them for the most part.

FYI:

Last week there were threats against elementary schools by those claiming to be clowns. Six neighboring schools if I recall. One or two were seen just outside the grounds.

Of course they're not real clowns, but they are sociopaths disguising who they are.

It's time Ronald retired anyway. I never knew of any child who liked him. I don't like clowns either, not even when I was a small child. I was never impressed with their tricks and always thought they were ugly and not funny at all.

Don't care clowns. I never did.

I wasn't scared of them, but I just thought they were creepy.

@Noel7, how could McDonald's Corporation have *Ronald McDonald* House without having ever had a "Ronald" in the flesh or statues, in the advertising, on the happy meals, etc.? The name (and the identification families have had with it) doesn't exist in a vacuum. Ronald as a clown is firmly established in the public consciousness. When people go to McDonald's they "see" him everywhere - in the on-site play areas, on signs and on happy meal boxes. "He" only appeared "in person" on relatively rare occasions - and I'm sure has delighted many children over 53 years.

I don't think, though, that eliminating "live Ronald" would be a big deal, as he hasn't been a big deal "live" for quite a few years anyway.

I don't care for Ronald one way or the other, but I feel bad that it impacts him. 2 teenagers and 2 young adults were arrested here this weekend for dressing like clowns and jumping out at passing cars. Luckily they were arrested and nobody was hurt for their stupidity. I have no patience for pranks like that.
