ARE YOU SUPERSTITIOUS?

I never thought I was but I find myself not opening an umbrella in the house or walking under a ladder. I know that tomorrow is October 1st but I won't flip my calendar over to October before I leave the office today because someone once told me it was bad luck to change your calendar before the month actually starts, so I'll wait until I come in on Monday, October 3rd, to flip the page to October. Silly, huh?

Although I don't walk under ladders because I don't think it;s safe and I don't open my umbrella in the house because I couldn't get out the door once I did, I don't consider myself superstitious.

I do sort of understand where some superstitions come from, but I just haven't found those which match my personal experiences.

I totally agree about the calendar thing, @Texasmouse. Same way here!

Overall, not very superstitious, except when it comes to my sports teams, but I think of that as more of a ritual than a superstition!!

Sports are the only thing allowed in this case for me as well. For myself for decades I have always wanted the Cowboys to lose all their pre-season games since usually that mean't a winning regular season. Also, felt more relaxed when they scored the first points of any game. Those stats for the most part would mean a win at the end of the game, even if it was just a field goal and not a touchdown. You are so right ritual over superstition.

I don't flip the calendar over before it's time.

If I see a coin (money) on the floor and it's face down, I leave it there.

This one may sound strange and it may have never happened to anyone else that posts here - if I am alone in the house and I hear someone call my name, I do not turn around to look or answer. I say G-d Bless and go about my business.

I agree about ladders - it's a safety issue, not a luck thing. I do sometimes open umbrellas indoors, not to go out a door, but to check for holes and make sure they work if they've gone unused for a while. I've gotten stuck in a downpour with an umbrella with a hole in the center of the canopy - never again! Now I check for holes before I go outside, usually as soon as I see rain in the forecast.

No one in my family is superstitious so I never learned to be.

I take care not to "tempt the Fates" and do knock on wood but I don't think I'm overtly superstitious. I kind of pick and choose depending on the circumstances.

However, I do believe "Murphy" has taken up semi-permanent residence in my house and routinely makes certain his law is still in effect.

Not superstitious, but definitely go with my gut feeling about things.
