Do you remember penny candy?

It is one of my happiest childhood memories, going to the store, with a few pennies, to buy penny candy

When the store got some new candy items it swept the neighborhood like greazed lightning.

I used to love the licorice candy cigarettes, and also the wintergreen ones. I loved the little brown oblong carmels with a squirrel on the wrapper that were called nut chews

Do you have a favorite candy from you childhood?

I remember great chocolates bought by the scoop in England and Belgium. Not a penny by a long shot but absolutely wonderful.

We visited my grandparents everyday growing up. We got paid in change to do yard work. There were two little stores that sold penny candies. One was better than the other, but it was farther. I don't remember what we bought, but I remember walking there with my sister.

We had those too probably a differnt kind, but we had to go down town, to the dollar store candy counter, to buy those. They were a bit upmarket for kiddies

We had a little store around the corner, and it was the kind of place that had a little bit of everything, including penny candy. Those people had the patience of a saint, because it was serious business selecting just the right candy. I liked the chocolate Turkish taffy, but it was all good. If you had a nickel, you could get a full size candy bar ! My gosh, that was a long time ago, and a nice memory, thanks.🍬🍭🍭🍬🍬

Ah, yes, sweet memories! My favs were tootsie rolls, smarties, and the long, sticky, swirled stocks! Cherry, of course! Remember the colored dots on that wretched paper! I always got more paper than candy! Oh, one more, the candy necklaces! Why did I always eat them on my neck requiring me to go in early for a bath?!?

Oh yes ! My Mom would send me to the little store on the corner for a pack of winstons, and I would choose a banana Popsicle , but those little wax Coke bottles filed with blue liquid or the red wax lips always fascinated me 😊

Actually, the shops in the UK were "Woolies" or Woolworths' as it was once known as I understand in the US. And for a euro a rather good-sized bag could be filled.

I do remeber those dots they tasted sweet but that about all you could say for them. I liked york rolls a sort of a toffee flavored small roll of candy. It tasted like Halloway suckers, sometimes called a slowpoke

My sisters liked Mary Janes and black jack carmels

@JaneMarple Everyone liked Bazooka bbubble gum better that double bubble, which was so stiff it practically dislocated your jaw to chew it

When I was little a loaf of bread was 28cents so my Mom would give us 30 cents and we could spend the 2 pennies on candy.

goetze caramel creams......a baltimore, maryland tradition! the company has been around for 100+ years.
