First, you can do anything you want! But, If you are asking if you should gift your former trainer, I'd say it depends on how close you were, and if you've kept in close touch. If not so much, then I'd say a card with personal sentiments written inside would suffice. If you have a socialized a little, then send a small, token of thought for their happiness, like a cute sign similar to "Always kiss me goodnight" , one that might have special meaning for the newlyweds! His and Hers coffee mugs with a pound of DD coffee is also thoughtful. If you are still very close, gift away! Weddings today are quite expensive and often, if one has a large family, many good, close friends must be left off the guest list, only due to financial constraints!

I gave a gift to a coworker who was getting married yet I wasn't invited to the wedding which I completely understood. A lot of people don't have the money to invite anyone other than family and dear friends.

I say go for it! I think it is beyond gracious and nice of you to do so and I'm sure your trainer will be more than appreciative that you thought of them.

If you want to give a gift, then give it and I am sure that it will be appreciated. I would think that it would really depend on your relationship with that trainer. At Christmas, I always give my trainers at the Y a small gift certificate from the WaWa (a convenience store if you are not familiar) and the amount depends on how much contact I have with that trainer. I do not give one when I no longer have a workout relationship with a trainer.

It all depends on what you are comfortable doing. I generally use the "when in doubt--don't" theory if I am conflicted. If you see your former trainer out and about, you can always offer congratulations and good wishes. If you don't think that is enough, then send a card and a gift certificate.
