Laughing after Everything You Say

Do you know someone who does this?

I work with someone who laughs after pretty much everything she says. As though everything that comes out of her mouth is oh.so.clever. After being around her for any length of time I just want to say "STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT".

I figure if something is funny then the person listening would do the laughing, not the person uttering the assumed funny.

I think it's a nervous habit. Although, sometimes they are very loud, too, so everyone within 50 feet can hear. I guess it could be a craving-for-attention issue, if they are loud.

Yes, she's VERY loud too!

I think you may be right, it being a nervous habit and an attention thing.

But it's still irritating as hell! Especially since she's so loud.

Not so much laughing. But, I hate listening to people who make jokes all the time in every situation or conversation. It gets so old their trying to be funny and making stupid supposingly funny comments.

There is one QVC host who does this..... He is always trying to be funny,( and sadly he is not funny) and if he is not cracking a joke, he is talking about his farm, or his dogs or his Hobbies .....or his this or his that. Like the world revolves around him. These kind of people just make others not want to be around them.

It's a nervous habit that stems from insecurity. Such people often also laugh after *anything* anyone *else* says, whether appropriate or not.

Example:

I worked with a woman who was an "inappropriate laugher" who also flat out loudly guffawed at any speech - hers or anyone else's - very inappropriately in a professional workplace, on a continuing basis.

I was showing a co-worker a photo I'd found in my desk of my cat. This person walked up and asked about the cat. I explained that I'd been very fond of this cat and that I'd been devastated when I'd had to put it to sleep due to it having cancer. She LAUGHED.

Now, it might be a "nervous habit", but even if so, unless one has Asperger's (she does not) they know when it's INappropriate to laugh. I've never forgotten it, as an example of sheer a**ininity.

It reminds me of this 'lol speak' that I see sometimes. It's lol this and lol that and lol lol lol lol - STOP IT! lame

Maybe she finds herself so amusing it makes her laugh! She's her best audience.

I guess I have never met someone that did this.... but I do agree it is either a nervous habit or a bit of insecurity. I do know people because of insecurity always put other people down. I would much rather have the laughter.

Not exactly the same thing but what annoys me is the hosts who present a product... give a price and have a smile or laugh to give us the impression that we are the lucky ones to be listening and we better buy this product right now, right now because it is a real deal.

You mean like posters who say something they know is totally obviously snotty and then type lol at the end? AFAIC that's the same as ending a comment with a sneer or the equivalent of * you.

Yes, I have known folks like that. Others that do things that are so rude as well. One gal will laugh and make light of things that are serious. Some things need to be taken seriously and strongly but she just ignores any of it. She then gets ignored and avoided and wonders why.

She doesn't really laugh when someone else actually says something funny. Or rarely. She does tend to just walk away, though. She might even glare before walking away.

Guess she's the only funny one.

She tends to start talking to someone before she's even in visual distance from the person she's addressing. Again, very loudly.

Yeah, it's gotta be an attention seeking thing.

My wife had a nurse that did that during her last 6 day stay in the hospital. She was a very nice and good nurse, but where I am usually a nonstop talker with my nurses, I kept my mouth shut whenever she came into the room.

I have been around others like that and I usually look for the quickest way to depart.

Yeah, that too! 'Snotty' is the perfect word to describe that.

I feel like having someone film these people to show them what they look like.
