I buy the majority of my cards at Dollar General, Wal-Mart, Meijer, etc. I refuse to pay over $3.00 for a card and you can find some nice ones under that price. OK, they're not exactly high-end but they are still pretty nice. I used to buy all my cards at Party City but they moved to a much much smaller location and only have a handful of cards now. I don't even know where the nearest Hallmark store is but I was never fond of them (in general) anyway.

I know this is an unimportant topic but was wondering if most of you purchase cards at a 50% off store or Hallmark? I use to only buy Hallmark cards but the mall near me doesn't have a store anymore. Really I find the 50% off stores have a very nice selection of cards. Most people read a card and toss it out in a day or two unless it is special to you. I was in CVS looking for a card and found one that was $2.99 and it wasn't anything special. I figure for the same $3.00 I can probably get 2 or 1 1/2 cards.

Wherever I find a card I like, I buy it. Hallmark, grocery store, Target, gift shop. I don't care. I've bought some at the post office before because they carry a Hallmark line that I really like (Sunrise).

My Christmas cards for this year are coming from a local stationary/paper/ gift type store.

I get most of mine at a nearby Hallmark store. They might have 50% off boxes of Christmas cards at times. They send me coupons for $ off my next purchases. Was there just the other week to get a lot of cards for October and November. DH noticed that there were a lot of empty spaces on shelves and i.e. very few birthday cards for Grandsons. He asked the clerk if they were going out of business or moving. The clerk said no, that they were awaiting a late shipment of product. Don't know if that was just a corporate answer to the situation. Will see soon enough. Empty shelf space is not a good sign.

Family Dollar often has wonderful cards for a dollar or two, really nice looking. They are sometimes on an endcap in their own area. I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed them, and now they are a go-to for me.

I cannot tell you when the last time I was in an actual Hallmark store. There just aren't any in my area.

Depending on the circumstances, I often will buy my cards at the Dollar Tree. For certain birthdays where I am looking for a funny card, I buy them at the grocery store, drugstore or "mart" type store.

Several years ago, I went to the Hallmark store at Mother's Day, and was willing to spend up to $10 on a really nice, large, flower and lacy type card that would suit my mom.

All they had was modern ugly junk that I wouldn't have sent to the dog.

It is hard to find a truly pretty card these days when looking for one for an older lady and you want ribbons, frills flowers, teapots etc. They have obviously gone out of style.

Most of my cards now come from the Dollar Tree, but sometimes for my mom, I'll find something 'nicer' at a higher price point.

Most of our area's Hallmarks are now gone, and I caught one dealer at the flea market selling off some of their leftover stock after one store's closing a number of years ago. I was able to pick up enough really high end Hallmark cards, most for 25 or 50 cents, for all occasions to last me for many years. I have gone through most of those now, and am on the hunt for nice cards once again.

First, I don't think any topic is unimportant if it is one your mind! Heck yes! I buy those cards as often as possible! If not those, I buy the .99 cards! Unless it's a very important card I can't see spending the high prices they put on cards, especially when they only get thrown away a few days later! At one point my family stopped giving cards and wrote a short note to the person and included a $1.00 bill! We only did that for family members, tho. I guess we stopped when the kids got old enough to read their cards. I think we should go back to it!
