Restaurant recommendations in NYC.

A friend and I will be in NYC next week and neither of us is that familiar with the city. Does anyone have any recommendations for lunch places in the Times Square area? We are going to see 2 matinees and would like to have lunch nearby. Thanks!

One place my family enjoys is Gyu Kaku, a Japanese restaurant.

Juniors!! The portions are too big (imo!) - there's never room for cheescake. But they have a very nice lunch special during the week that's the 'right' price and 'right' portion. It's on 45th right off of Broadway.

I have been there many times but always with someone familiar with the city. I know there are hundreds of restaurants in that area but want an idea for someplace to have lunch before the show and not just eat anywhere we happen to pass.

One of our favorite places for lunch in the theater district is Blue Fin. We also like Joe Allen a lot. Also Glass House Tavern. We have been going to all three for many years. Make a reservation to be sure of getting in. What matinees are you seeing?

Give yourself at least an hour or two before a show- the wait times get very long in the TImes Sq area.

I also like BBQ on 42nd near 8th Ave- another good lunch 'special' place!

When you check in at your hotel; ask them to recommend some restaurants. If you tell them what type of food you are interested in and the general price range, they will be able to recommend some great places to eat. It's what I always do when I travel.

We have been to Blue Fin too- it's been about 4 years since we went to NYC and I guess I just don't remember where we ate. We are going to Serendipity with our husbands while we are there and Dos Caminos for brunch on Saturday- I love their French Toast! We are going to see Phantom, School of Rock and maybe Waitress. Thanks for the suggestions!

My favorite Italian restaurant is TreColori located on 47th St by 8th Ave. You definitely will need reservations a week ahead of time to be on the safe side.

Junior 's is also right there and no reservations needed. Enjoy.

Another suggestion. Since you said "maybe" about Waitress it sounds like you don't have all of your tickets booked. When my husband and I were in the city in July to see a few shows we passed by the TKTS booth and tickets were available for most shows. You can actually go to their website -- click on "Live feed" -- and see what is available for the same day.

If it were me, I'd grab something quick & splurge on dinner. You don't want to get hung up & miss your show.

Plenty of places in the area for a quick lunch, depending on what you like to eat. You can get pizza by the slice. I'd save a "nice" meal for a time when you can relax & enjoy.

I like Ray's for pizza. There are also all the usual chain restaurants as well.

Most times if you go to a restaurant & tell them you are seeing a show, they will get you out on time. Google restaurants near the theater where the show is located.

Three of us ate here year before last for sunday brunch and it was fabulous. Food and service top notch. We all had different things and cleaned our plates.

It is right across from Rockefeller Center. We didn't go last year because we didn't stay in that part of town. Otherwise, we would have gone back.

I'm going next week too. Saturday - Thursday. Maybe I'll run in to you.

Again , not staying in that area so will probably not go. We try new places every year.

If you like pastrami, cornbeef-there is no place like the Carnegie Deli.
