I'm hoping someone can help me resolve my issue. I purchased a new mattress which was delivered today. I did not get it from QVC. It's air cool memory foam on top of coils. Here's my question. This mattress is supposed to sleep cooler. I purchased the $100 tencel protector sheet they push on you and now after reading some of the reviews, I'm not so sure I want/need it. Some of the reviews by "older" folks say it makes the bed hot. I have animals, but if they get on my bed, it's made up so I don't think any mess will get on the mattress. Do I really need it? Once I take it out of the package, they won't take it back so I can't try it first.

I just bought a new mattress, and it came with a waterproof mattress protector. They said the warranty wasn't any good if you weren't using a mattress protector. I've always used one anyway.

I think it's a good idea to use one, because you just never know what could happen. You may think nothing will ever spill or your pet won't have an accident, but that's just when it does.

I was in the middle of changing my bed one day and my grandson was visiting. He came in my bedroom to say he didn't feel well and projectile vomit came spewing forth and got all over my mattress pad.

I think you'll be glad to have the added protection.

My sil is in the mattress business. If you stain a mattress the warranty is automatically voided! I think I'd stay with the pad, but I'll ask him and get back to you!

As so many others have said, make sure to check the warranty. DH and I also purchased a new set about a year and a half ago and we were told that you had to use a mattress pad or the warranty would be voided. Regardless of what was wrong with the bed, if you try to make a warranty claim and there is a stain on it, the warranty is voided.

Also word of advice, don't be so sure your dog's mess wouldn't go through everything, depending on the size of your dog. I had a boxer that started to have issues when she got older. I made her sleep on top of a thick throw which was on top of a down alternative comforter, blanket, flat sheet, fitted sheet plus a mattress pad. She had an accident and I didn't know it until the next morning. No lie, it soaked through all of that to my mattress!!!!

Personally, I would never think of NOT using a mattress pad, but there's a difference in a mattress pad and what you bought, a protector. If you purchased your mattress from an actual brick and mortar store, they do insist on you purchasing their protector in order to maintain your warranty. If you don't buy it, your warranty is voided. The waterproof protector is for more than just a barrier doggie accidents, though, they're for spilling accidents and assorted bodily fluids from people too.

I'd ask more about the $100 Tencel sheet. Tencel isn't waterproof on its own, so it must be treated with something. I know clothing made from Tencel is usually more expensive. Seems like you could find a cheaper cover without the Tencel. Did you ask them what the purpose of the $100 Tencel sheet is?

And is it a sheet, a mattress protector, or a mattress pad? I don't think those are the same thing.

I sell mattresses like that in my furniture store and I also sell the protectors. You need one that is breathable AND waterproof. Also if you want to "feel" the mattress you need the protector very thin more like a sheet and not a "Pad".

I sell Malouf brand and they can be found on Amazon I think.

Hope that helps.

A pad isn't always waterproof so if something gets through the mattress could get stained and void the warranty.
