Presidential Polls, NOT POLITICAL!

We hear so much about all these polls everybody and his brother are conducting. Has anyone out there been contacted? I haven't. However, I don't answer any calls that I don't recognize on my caller ID, so that could be the reason . Just curious as to where they get these numbers.

I was called, but declined to participate. The only reliable "poll" will be held on November 8, 2016 in voting booths.

I get some phone polls, but more often I am doing online polls.

I'm on the roster of several polling/survey companies and take surveys on everything from local to federal politics and movies/tv to shopping habits.

I took a poll about the elections last week and this week I've taken a poll about the Olympics and one about a TV show.

I haven't been either, unless it is some of those phone calls that I block. Now that I'm thinking about it, I imagine some of those calls must be that sort of thing. Years ago I remember answering a call where I was asked if I was voting for (blank) and I did answer.

They seem to do fairly well, over all, so they must be getting enough of a sample to legitimize them.

Businesses that you have dealt with may have "sold" your number to the Presidential Pollsters and/or other 3rd party entities.

Banks do this quite often unless YOU signed a waiver from them giving them permission to do so or NOT. I always check the NO box. My bank sends the waiver once a year. I think it's some sort of Federal Privacy law re banks that they do so.

I am called a lot, but I don't participate. I don't believe in polls--though I do believe in the elections--as long as they don't unfairly exclude qualified voters. There is a lot of interference with elections where I live in FL, one reason I am looking to move as soon as I stop working.

i dont answer phone calls that are blocked, anything with an 800 number, or pretty much anything i dont recognize. i DO know i have been receiving political calls though. i have been getting numerous calls from the CRNC and they do not leave messages.

I don't know that I have ever been called, but in this day and age of caller ID, I only answer the phone when I know exactly who it is! If it's important enough, the unknown caller will leave a message.

I don't participate in polls online of per phone. Have been wondering myself where these polls come from. Don't want to hear about them all the time.

I wonder what all the media will talk about once the election is over.

Those polled don't come from businesses, that would make them invalid.

Usually they come from groups that do polling professionally, like the Pew poll, or from universities.

Those who poll professionally study the science of polling for years, statistics and how to get a random population.

The whole point is to get a group that represents certain populations, such as a particular state. It's important to identify demographics.

Even then, mistakes are made.

I don't use caller I.d. Last winter, we were polled all the time. And I have started getting calls again this month. I am a registered Independent which may have something to do with it?

Never been polled for a political race, although I do surveys now and then.

The results change all the time and will be different next week, so why would I ever let them waste my time?

I usually don't answer unknown numbers. On the rare occasion I do, it's always solicitation of some type. I hang up before they get the story out.

I used to get annoyed. Then, one afternoon I was visiting my parents when my father answered a call ... he had a fantastic way of handling and had a lot of fun doing it.

Each time the guy asked the question, my father had him repeat it ... then excused himself saying that he had to answer the doorbell ... and waited a few minute and picked up the phone again ... and had the guy repeat the quetion again.

Then my father would give his opinion/answer ... something absolutely absurd.

This continued for a while with various excuses and repeated questions. We laughed about it for hours afterwards.

I do something similar now ... give absurd answer and opinions.

The results change because people change their minds. Opinions aren't fixed or static. The slightest thing can change how respondents feel. That's what makes it interesting.

I also find it interesting.

The only thing I don't get is when I've heard people say on tv that some people actually lie on a poll. I don't see what the point of that is! Why either just not play at all, or play like an adult and be honest?
