I watched him for years on Friday nights. I disagreed with much of what he said but the panel was intelligent, interesting, and educational. Dana Carvey's parody was hysterically funny. May he rest in peace.

thanks for correcting me. i have corrected my post from Garvey to Carvey. and he was hysterical- but so right on! Wrong!

I had read earlier in the week that he missed his last show. Sorry to hear he passed away. My Dad was a loyal listener of the show.

He was a Priest and taught at Fairfield Prep! One of my uncles attended and had mentioned that. Mr. McLaughlin certainly had a long and successful career.

John McLaughlin, host of the television show "The McLaughlin Group" for 34 straight years, died Tuesday morning at the age of 89, according to a post on the show's Facebook page.

"As a former jesuit priest, teacher, pundit and news host, John touched many lives," the post reads. "For 34 years, The McLaughlin Group informed millions of Americans. Now he has said bye bye for the last time, to rejoin his beloved dog, Oliver, in heaven. He will always be remembered."

On Monday, McLaughlin was absent from the show, breaking his hosting streak of 34 years, seven months and one week.

"I am under the weather," McLaughlin said in a note at the beginning of this week's episode. He added that his voice was "weaker than usual," but "my spirit is strong and my dedication to the show remains absolute!"

Grew up watching the show. Loved it, loved him. He was good friend of my FIL's. He will be missed deeply. RIP, Mr. McLaughlin.

that sketch still makes me laugh 26 years later

I could never watch the actual show without waiting for him to say "motoun teeny tiny table top"

I just saw a smidgen of his show which I hadn't seen in years. He looked frail, making me aware of his mortality. Stone by stone, the wall is coming down
