LOUISIANNA FLOODING

Just feeling sad and concerned for those in Lousianna. The flooding's been on the news all day yesterday. It showed them pulling out a woman from her car that was underwater along with her dog and they swam to the rescuers: this was on a street, not a pond or river! And, heard waters could rise a few more feet today! (Scary, very scary.)

Just wanted anyone from that area, sending thoughts and prayers for your safety and well-being.

Saw a lady saying they tried to get out one door and there were spiders, went to another and came face to face with a snake.. Thank goodness they were able to get out. I feel so, so bad for all of those people and hope the water recedes really soon and fast.

I know they sure have dealt with a lot. I saw a video on the weather channel that showed coffins floating around.

That happened in Florida too with the coffins. This is why my hubby and I had made the decision to be cremated and put in a wall. I am really not interested in floating around in flood waters! ugh

Well, I'm in S. E. Louisiana, just a couple of miles from some of the worst flooding we have had in the 40 years or so that I've lived here. Even the main Interstate highway through our area has been closed since early Saturday when water surged across it. Happily deaths have been kept to aminimum, but the destruction has been unbelievable. The rivers are beginning to drop now and it is anticipated that everything will be much improved no later than Tuesday. Some areas have had more than two feet of rain, and the flooding is over the rooftops in a number of spots. However, there have been two floods that were worse than this week's. Now all we need is another Hurricane!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words. The death toll has now reached 7; hopefully that will be the final number. Authorities have said that at least six river gauges hit record levels. We were spared here in the New Orleans area and are trying to give back to our neighbors to the north and west who gave shelter to so many of us after Katrina. Many food and clothing drives taking place here. Please keep these folks in your prayers!

ETA Sadly, I need to change the number of deaths to 13.

Seeing the flood footage on the news is just so horrible. I just can't imagine what those people are suffering. And I have to add the California fires. It's too much to even watch, let alone live through. A person feels so helpless seeing these disasters unfold in parts of our country. Blessings to them all,especially the heroes helping people in La. and the firefighters in Ca.

One of the men that work for my husband lives not far from the flooding- told my husband several of his and his wife's family are living in his house as all of them have lost everything.. Said his home is safe as they chose to buy/build out of the flood zone.

Please let the rain/flooding end soon and keep people safe.

I've been watching through my LSU alumni pages. Some of the best people in the world live in Louisiana. You guys were so fantastic to welcome me when I went to college there years ago. Praying for you all now and waiting to see what else I can do.

Was just watching fox and saw more on the flooding - those poor people losing everything, and still having to remain in shelters: it is just devastating to imagine and see the damage.

It seems that the people of Louisianna are selflessly helping one another, e.g., emergency personnel, though also affected, leaving their families to help others! Just wondering if you have any more updates as to how things are going down there.

Personally, wish the shopping channels would add an option if one wanted to donate, while ordering on-line/phone so we all could help out - just mho. I think the rest of the country feels so helpless.

You can donate to the Red Cross. They are so wonderful when things like this happen. Also, the Police or Fire Departments and churches in those areas will take donations ... of any kind. They help more than anyone ... besides the people that live there.

I was listening to the Governor of Louisiana last night and he said the state is receiving everything they ask for from the federal government but due to coverage of the campaign and the Olympics by the media donations to organizations like the Red Cross are low.

He encouraged the media to get the word out about the needs of the people of Louisiana and encourage donations to the Red Cross and other organizations that provide one on one help.
