Sad and DISTURBING

It is mind boggling that a six-year-old child would be so violent. Unfortunately I have read a number of reports in the past couple of weeks of young children (pre to very early teen) killing siblings and other family members.

A Florida woman has been charged after police say her young son beat his newborn sister to death.

News outlets report 62-year-old Kathleen Marie Steele was arrested Thursday on an aggravated manslaughter of a child charge.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gulatieri says that on Monday, Steele went to a cellphone repair business in St. Petersburg and left her children in the car — the infant, a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old.

While Steele was inside the business, the baby began crying. Gulatieri says the 6-year-old began beating the baby to make her stop.

The baby, who was born July 26 and also named Kathleen Steele, was pronounced dead that evening. An autopsy showed the girl sustained head trauma and had multiple skull fractures.

It's unclear if Steele has an attorney.

Children are not small adults, and should not be treated as such, nor should they be entrusted with adult responsibilities.

Are we sure this wasn't the grandmother?

A 62 year old has an infant, a three year old, and a six year old?

How very sad .... the article states that mother is 62 years old ... how did a 62 year old have a baby on July 26th? ... this mother is at fault for leaving small children alone in a car & the 6 year old that beat the infant needs lots of therapy now & in the future!

This is a sad story. First that three children were left in a car. Then what happened to the infant.

Is she the mother? If she is 62 yrs old? Is the age transposed?

If this article is correct (age of mother, could be wrong or could be grandmother?) and this six year old did in fact do this, there is something terribly wrong, as there would have been signs way before this, of this child's violent tendencies.

I see young children on occasion with violent, destructive and hateful behavior, and parents ignoring them. There is a distinct difference between bratty or tantrums and the kind of acting out that leads to something like this. And it doesn't just come out of nowhere, there are signs of it, and it builds in intensity as they continue to get away with the behavior.

What a horribly sad situation.

In 2009,Kathleen Steele and her husband, Philip,

appeared in an episode of the reality show I'm Pregnant

and 55 Years Old.

"I'm Kathleen, I'm pregnant and I'm 55," she declared at

the start of the show.

Her husband died of cancer in 2011 at the age of 66. The

sheriff said the two youngest children were born as a result

of artificial insemination, using the dead husband's frozen

sperm.

Steele was raising the three young children herself. But

even before her baby girl died less than two weeks after

she was born, the sheriff said, there were already

concerns for her kids' well being.

No the age is correct, and she is/was the mother. I read that she was in some reality show for being a very old first time mother.

What a tragic story, all of it. She had no reaction to being told her baby was killed? Horrible, all of it.

Wow, this whole thing is just bad/sad from A to Z.

I can totally see her being charged, as she is clearly negligent, but I wonder if they are checking the oldest child out at all to see if he is showing proclivities for some sort of sociopathy.

Clearly, the prior incident would have had some effect in the cause of death due to what the child did, but he had to gone into some kind of rage to cause the damage and death..

This woman that jumped through hoops to have babies leaves her children in a locked car in that heat to have her cell phone repaired and after seeing what had happened to her newborn daughter ran an additional errand?

Manslaughter is kind in my opinion. God I hate reality TV.

The 62 year old is the mother. She had her late husband's sperm frozen. She also had been on DCFS radar b/c of ijuries to the newborn prior to this incident.

So tragic.

Who would leave a 6 yr. old child in charge of a baby and a toddler. Yes, the 6 yr. old child has issues and will need lots of help. I imagine his life was not an easy one either. I wonder how much neglect and abuse he took in only being on this earth himself for 6 yrs. This is just tragic all the way around.

Surely there was family that witnessed some of this?
