Lord, Your presence in my life brings me&lt;BR /&gt; great joy.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Scripture for the day:&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you&lt;BR /&gt; wish, and it will be done for you." ~John 15:7&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Meditation for the day:&lt;BR /&gt; "Ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." God has&lt;BR /&gt; unlimited power. There is no limit to what God's power can do in&lt;BR /&gt; human hearts. We can will to have God's power and we can ask God for&lt;BR /&gt; it. God's power can be blocked by our indifference to it. We can go&lt;BR /&gt; along our own selfish way without calling on God's help, and we&lt;BR /&gt; receive no power. But when we trust in God, we can will to have the&lt;BR /&gt; power we need. When we sincerely ask God for it, we can receive it&lt;BR /&gt; abundantly.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Prayer for the day:&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I pray that I may will to have God's power. I pray that I may keep&lt;BR /&gt; praying for the strength I need.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Greetings to you my friends! Today is such a nice, warm day - we enjoy it!&lt;BR /&gt; And tonight we are having supper at Lori's with Darla and Greg there -&lt;BR /&gt; looking forward to it. They have been shopping around town for Wedding&lt;BR /&gt; stuff. I don't know when we'll get back home so this is going out early&lt;BR /&gt; again. Hope you don't mind. Today's blessings were a really nice nap - I&lt;BR /&gt; was so tired and now I'm refreshed! Also our stuff in the garden is coming&lt;BR /&gt; up and it's exciting to see how fast they grow! My herbs in the patio are&lt;BR /&gt; growing! Darla just called -they are on their way over to Lori's so we will&lt;BR /&gt; follow shortly and I'm sure we'll have a very blessed evening with our&lt;BR /&gt; family! Looking forward to it! Another bonfire but warmer weather for it&lt;BR /&gt; now.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; A Visit with Jesus&lt;BR /&gt; I will pay a visit to Jesus at least once each day. In my own words I will&lt;BR /&gt; tell Jesus that I believe that He is truly present in the tabernacle and&lt;BR /&gt; that I adore Him, as He is my God. I will talk to Him about any joy or&lt;BR /&gt; trouble I have had since my last visit. I will say a short prayer, for&lt;BR /&gt; instance: "Jesus, my God, I adore Thee here truly present in the Sacrament&lt;BR /&gt; of Thy love." Amen.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Reach Up&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Ye, though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I will fear no&lt;BR /&gt; evil."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The journey each of us walks is not always a meadow full of flowers.&lt;BR /&gt; Sometimes it is a journey up a mountain, loose rocks and steep inclines.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; We so often loose sight of the beautiful scenery because of our attempts to&lt;BR /&gt; hold on. We have to struggle with many things in this world that makes us&lt;BR /&gt; feel alone.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Arthritis grips us tight and wrenches pain from within. Diabetes cuts our&lt;BR /&gt; feelings ulcerates our skin. Cancer files away at the cells of our body and&lt;BR /&gt; leaves us weak. Blindness takes away our vision and paints our world black.&lt;BR /&gt; Mental disabilities hold our thoughts and leave us in a lonely room. Cruelty&lt;BR /&gt; of others cuts our hearts and leaves us empty.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; We were born to celebrate, to reach up and believe. We were born to rejoice,&lt;BR /&gt; to lift our hands to life. We were born to sing, to paint rainbows with our&lt;BR /&gt; voice. We were born to love, to hold the hands of gentleness. We were born&lt;BR /&gt; to share, to be a blessing to those around us.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Reach up, my friend and believe for that is God's dream. "Every note must be perfect."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket had a gift for reaching others with her music. She could&lt;BR /&gt; change her tune to suit her listener. She could perk you up with a&lt;BR /&gt; bouncy melody, liven your step with a reel or jig or calm you with a&lt;BR /&gt; hymn or ballad. That responsibility had begun to weigh cricket's&lt;BR /&gt; heart. Her tone became shrill.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Can't you see I am busy?," she would screech. "Don't you know that&lt;BR /&gt; everyone is depending on me?"&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Everyone around could hear her atonal whinges.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "What horrid noise!" groaned the caterpillar. "&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The other insects agreed. Something was wrong with their reliable and&lt;BR /&gt; once harmonious&lt;BR /&gt; friend. They decided to ask the one who had the most wisdom, the&lt;BR /&gt; praying mantis. "Mmmm," he said. "I shall see about this."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Praying mantis sent cricket an invitation to tea. Cricket was so&lt;BR /&gt; worried.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "It must be perfect," she shrilled. "He must be in need. I can't let&lt;BR /&gt; him down!"&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Upon arriving, cricket tried to sense mantis's mood. He appeared at&lt;BR /&gt; peace. Finally, she asked what it was he needed of her.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The mantis said, "You have been given a very great gift..."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket interrupted, "Thank you. You are too kind. I am only here to&lt;BR /&gt; serve."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Yes you are," mantis said solemnly. "Unfortunately you have been&lt;BR /&gt; rather a poor tool of late."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket was so horrified and overwhelmed that she began to cry.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "But I tried so hard," she said miserably. "I have worked until&lt;BR /&gt; exhaustion trying to do well."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "That is just the problem," mantis said. "You are trying too hard. You&lt;BR /&gt; are an instrument, but you have taken yourself out of the master's&lt;BR /&gt; hands and tried to wield yourself. Like a violin leaping from the&lt;BR /&gt; hands of the virtuoso in the midst of a concert and playing a jingle."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Mantis told cricket to think back to when she first began to play her&lt;BR /&gt; tunes for others. "What were you thinking of then?" he said.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket realized that she hadn't been thinking of anything. She had&lt;BR /&gt; simply seen someone and felt happy or sad or compassionate and her&lt;BR /&gt; music had come from her soul to fill the air and heal the others&lt;BR /&gt; around her.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Think back to what happened to make you leap off on your own," he&lt;BR /&gt; added.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket pondered. I went out there where he was walking up and down restlessly.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I showed him into my office and pointed to the chair on the other side of my&lt;BR /&gt; desk. It was in late autumn, and the lilac b ush outside the window had shed&lt;BR /&gt; all its leaves. "Please sit down," I said.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; David wore a black rain coat that was buttoned all the way up to his neck.&lt;BR /&gt; His face was pale, and he stared at his feet while wringing his hands&lt;BR /&gt; nervously. He had lost his father as an infant, and had lived together with&lt;BR /&gt; his mother and grandfather since. But the year before David turned 13, his&lt;BR /&gt; grandfather died and his mother was killed in a car accident. Now he was 14&lt;BR /&gt; and in family care.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; His head teacher had referred him to me. "This boy," he wrote, "is&lt;BR /&gt; understandably very sad and depressed. He refuses to talk to others and I'm&lt;BR /&gt; very worried about him. Can you help?"&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I looked at David. How could I help him? There are human tragedies&lt;BR /&gt; psychology doesn't have the answer to, and which no words can describe.&lt;BR /&gt; Sometimes the best thing one can do is to listen openly and sympathetically.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The first two times we met, David didn't say a word. He sat hunched up in&lt;BR /&gt; the chair and only looked up to look at the children's drawings on the wall&lt;BR /&gt; behind me. As he was about to leave after the second visit, I put my hand on&lt;BR /&gt; his shoulder. He didn't shrink back, but he didn't look at me either.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Come back next week, if you like," I said. I hesitated a bit. Then I said,&lt;BR /&gt; "I know it hurts."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; He came, and I suggested we play a game of chess. He nodded. After that we&lt;BR /&gt; played chess every Wednesday afternoon - in complete silence and without&lt;BR /&gt; making any eye contact. It's not easy to cheat in chess, but I admit that I&lt;BR /&gt; made sure David won once or twice.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Usually, he arrived earlier than agreed, took the chessboard and pieces from&lt;BR /&gt; the shelf and began setting them up before I even got a chance to sit down.&lt;BR /&gt; It seemed as if he enjoyed my company. But why did he never look at me?&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Perhaps he simply needs someone to share his pain with," I thought.&lt;BR /&gt; "Perhaps he senses that I respect his suffering." One afternoon in late&lt;BR /&gt; winter, David took off his rain coat and put it on the back of the chair.&lt;BR /&gt; While he was setting up the chess pieces, his face seemed more alive and his&lt;BR /&gt; motions more lively.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Some months later, when the lilacs blossomed outside, I sat starring at&lt;BR /&gt; David's head, while he was bent over the chessboard. I thought about how&lt;BR /&gt; little we know about therapy - about the mysterious process associated with&lt;BR /&gt; healing. Suddenly, he looked up at me.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "It's your turn," he said.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; After that day, David started talking. He got friends in school and joined a&lt;BR /&gt; bicycle club. He wrote to me a few times ("I'm biking with some friends and&lt;BR /&gt; I feel great"); letters about how he would try to get into university. After&lt;BR /&gt; some time, the letters stopped. Now he had really started to live his own&lt;BR /&gt; life.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Maybe I gave David something. At least I learned a lot from him. I learned&lt;BR /&gt; how time makes it possible to overcome what seems to be an insuperable pain.&lt;BR /&gt; I learned to be there for people who need me. And David showed me how one -&lt;BR /&gt; without any words - can reach out to another person. God has&lt;BR /&gt; unlimited power. There is no limit to what God's power can do in&lt;BR /&gt; human hearts. We can will to have God's power and we can ask God for&lt;BR /&gt; it. God's power can be blocked by our indifference to it. We can go&lt;BR /&gt; along our own selfish way without calling on God's help, and we&lt;BR /&gt; receive no power. But when we trust in God, we can will to have the&lt;BR /&gt; power we need. When we sincerely ask God for it, we can receive it&lt;BR /&gt; abundantly.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Prayer for the day:&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I pray that I may will to have God's power. Today's blessings were a really nice nap - I&lt;BR /&gt; was so tired and now I'm refreshed! Also our stuff in the garden is coming&lt;BR /&gt; up and it's exciting to see how fast they grow! In my own words I will&lt;BR /&gt; tell Jesus that I believe that He is truly present in the tabernacle and&lt;BR /&gt; that I adore Him, as He is my God. I will talk to Him about any joy or&lt;BR /&gt; trouble I have had since my last visit. I will say a short prayer, for&lt;BR /&gt; instance: "Jesus, my God, I adore Thee here truly present in the Sacrament&lt;BR /&gt; of Thy love." Cruelty&lt;BR /&gt; of others cuts our hearts and leaves us empty.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; We were born to celebrate, to reach up and believe. "Every note must be perfect."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket had a gift for reaching others with her music. She could&lt;BR /&gt; change her tune to suit her listener. She could perk you up with a&lt;BR /&gt; bouncy melody, liven your step with a reel or jig or calm you with a&lt;BR /&gt; hymn or ballad. That responsibility had begun to weigh cricket's&lt;BR /&gt; heart. Her tone became shrill.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Can't you see I am busy?," she would screech. "Don't you know that&lt;BR /&gt; everyone is depending on me?"&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Everyone around could hear her atonal whinges.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "What horrid noise!" groaned the caterpillar. "&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The other insects agreed. Something was wrong with their reliable and&lt;BR /&gt; once harmonious&lt;BR /&gt; friend. They decided to ask the one who had the most wisdom, the&lt;BR /&gt; praying mantis. "Mmmm," he said. "I shall see about this."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Praying mantis sent cricket an invitation to tea. Cricket was so&lt;BR /&gt; worried.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "It must be perfect," she shrilled. "He must be in need. I can't let&lt;BR /&gt; him down!"&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Upon arriving, cricket tried to sense mantis's mood. He appeared at&lt;BR /&gt; peace. Finally, she asked what it was he needed of her.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The mantis said, "You have been given a very great gift..."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket interrupted, "Thank you. You are too kind. I am only here to&lt;BR /&gt; serve."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Yes you are," mantis said solemnly. "Unfortunately you have been&lt;BR /&gt; rather a poor tool of late."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket was so horrified and overwhelmed that she began to cry.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "But I tried so hard," she said miserably. "I have worked until&lt;BR /&gt; exhaustion trying to do well."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "That is just the problem," mantis said. "You are trying too hard. You&lt;BR /&gt; are an instrument, but you have taken yourself out of the master's&lt;BR /&gt; hands and tried to wield yourself. Like a violin leaping from the&lt;BR /&gt; hands of the virtuoso in the midst of a concert and playing a jingle."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Mantis told cricket to think back to when she first began to play her&lt;BR /&gt; tunes for others. "What were you thinking of then?" he said.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket realized that she hadn't been thinking of anything. She had&lt;BR /&gt; simply seen someone and felt happy or sad or compassionate and her&lt;BR /&gt; music had come from her soul to fill the air and heal the others&lt;BR /&gt; around her.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Think back to what happened to make you leap off on your own," he&lt;BR /&gt; added.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Cricket pondered. I went out there where he was walking up and down restlessly.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I showed him into my office and pointed to the chair on the other side of my&lt;BR /&gt; desk. It was in late autumn, and the lilac b ush outside the window had shed&lt;BR /&gt; all its leaves. "Please sit down," I said.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; David wore a black rain coat that was buttoned all the way up to his neck.&lt;BR /&gt; His face was pale, and he stared at his feet while wringing his hands&lt;BR /&gt; nervously. He had lost his father as an infant, and had lived together with&lt;BR /&gt; his mother and grandfather since. But the year before David turned 13, his&lt;BR /&gt; grandfather died and his mother was killed in a car accident. Now he was 14&lt;BR /&gt; and in family care.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; His head teacher had referred him to me. "This boy," he wrote, "is&lt;BR /&gt; understandably very sad and depressed. He refuses to talk to others and I'm&lt;BR /&gt; very worried about him. Can you help?"&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; I looked at David. How could I help him? There are human tragedies&lt;BR /&gt; psychology doesn't have the answer to, and which no words can describe.&lt;BR /&gt; Sometimes the best thing one can do is to listen openly and sympathetically.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; The first two times we met, David didn't say a word. He sat hunched up in&lt;BR /&gt; the chair and only looked up to look at the children's drawings on the wall&lt;BR /&gt; behind me. As he was about to leave after the second visit, I put my hand on&lt;BR /&gt; his shoulder. He didn't shrink back, but he didn't look at me either.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Come back next week, if you like," I said. I hesitated a bit. Then I said,&lt;BR /&gt; "I know it hurts."&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; He came, and I suggested we play a game of chess. He nodded. After that we&lt;BR /&gt; played chess every Wednesday afternoon - in complete silence and without&lt;BR /&gt; making any eye contact. It's not easy to cheat in chess, but I admit that I&lt;BR /&gt; made sure David won once or twice.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Usually, he arrived earlier than agreed, took the chessboard and pieces from&lt;BR /&gt; the shelf and began setting them up before I even got a chance to sit down.&lt;BR /&gt; It seemed as if he enjoyed my company. But why did he never look at me?&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "Perhaps he simply needs someone to share his pain with," I thought.&lt;BR /&gt; "Perhaps he senses that I respect his suffering." One afternoon in late&lt;BR /&gt; winter, David took off his rain coat and put it on the back of the chair.&lt;BR /&gt; While he was setting up the chess pieces, his face seemed more alive and his&lt;BR /&gt; motions more lively.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Some months later, when the lilacs blossomed outside, I sat starring at&lt;BR /&gt; David's head, while he was bent over the chessboard. I thought about how&lt;BR /&gt; little we know about therapy - about the mysterious process associated with&lt;BR /&gt; healing. Suddenly, he looked up at me.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; "It's your turn," he said.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; After that day, David started talking. He got friends in school and joined a&lt;BR /&gt; bicycle club. He wrote to me a few times ("I'm biking with some friends and&lt;BR /&gt; I feel great"); letters about how he would try to get into university. After&lt;BR /&gt; some time, the letters stopped. Now he had really started to live his own&lt;BR /&gt; life.&lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt; Maybe I gave David something. At least I learned a lot from him. I learned&lt;BR /&gt; how time makes it possible to overcome what seems to be an insuperable pain.&lt;BR /&gt; I learned to be there for people who need me. And David showed me how one -&lt;BR /&gt; without any words - can reach out to another person.
