As an ITEM I wouldn't call them elegant or sophisticated.

Put together with the right pieces then the outfit could be either or both.

But worn with a t-shirt and flip flops I wouldn't call them either.

I just happened to flip past QVC and saw a pair of distressed jeans being presented. I wouldn't pay $59 for them but have no problem with anyone who would.

I was surprised to hear them called sophisticated and elegant. Those just aren't the adjectives I would use to describe them -- would you?

I don't understand the concept of wearing jeans that look like that. I also don't understand why wearing tops and dresses that look like you're dragging a tail around behind you is considered fashionable. I'll stick with my classics that never go out of style.

Well, you define sophisticated and elegant your way and other's describe it their way. Elegant, I would not have used but sophisticated. Yes. Have you been to some of the triendier bars, restaurants and events lately? The world has changed (to borrow a phrase from that commercial) and people dress much more casually today. They take a casual piece like those jeans. Which are just barely distressed. They build a dressier outfit around the casual piece. You add a lacy top or chiffon top and a strappy metallic sandal and some nice jewelry and there are indeed many really nice places you can wear it to and look appropriate. Being overdressed is as much a faux pas these days as being underdressed. $59 is not a lot for a pair of jeans, especially such a veratile pair as those jeans. I own a 2 pairs of similar jeans that I bought from Old Navy about 3 years ago. Great investment! Real denim with just a touch of stretch, not overly distressed. I bought a dark wash and medium wash. I don't recall what I paid but probably $50 a pair. I wondered when QVC was going to sell a nice pair of jeans like that.

The ones they are showing are hardly what I would call distressed. They are OK I have them for hundreds of dollars. I find it amusing that what sells can easily be achieved on your own with worn out jeans.

I happen to like them myself not the ones shown but others.

They really look good on me. I wear them without flops casually and heels to be more dressy. I know they are not everyone's style. They definitely are mine. I have on the light ones today. This line was on HSN and I got mine second two pairs on Ebay.

Ripped jeans were in style when I was in high school, in the '80's.

And yes, people paid to buy jeans that were already ripped.

Sometimes, we would take plain jeans, and cut holes in them, to get them to have that ripped look.

So, anybody over the age of 40, should remember when the ripped jean look was popular 30 years ago.

I won't wear distressed anything. But this particular jeans-hem-look is on the horizon:

Back when I was a young girl, I'd be embarrassed to wear something that was ripped, or had some irregularity. I quit school and went to work so I could buy nice things. Today I don't even like distressed leather. I'm just expressing my opinion.
