How Much Do You Know About Your State?

What is your state bird? Cardinal

What is your state tree? Tulip

What is your state flower? Peony ( was Zinnia changed to Peony in 1957)

What is your state song? On The Banks Of The Wabash

My state is Indiana. If you want to add anything interesting about your state that people might not know that might be fun, too!

Apparently nothing. I wasn't able to answer any of those questions. I googled and got the answers.

state bird - ruffed grouse

state flower - mountain laurel

state tree - eastern hemlock

state song - Pennsylvania

I am familiar with none of the above. I live in Pennsylvania.

Texas:

Mockingbird;

Pecan;

Bluebonnet;

Texas our Texas.

The original Dallas Cowboy football stadium was built without the roof so that God could watch his favorite team play. I grew up on that statement and believed with all my young girl's heart.

I do love Texas and I always felt sorry for the rest of the nation who could not live here with us.

Wanted to add that you've inspired me to do some research and find out more about my home state @jubilant. I was actually saddened (and embarrassed) that I knew so little about the state I've lived in all my life.

Bird: Scissortail Fly Catcher

Tree: Redbud

Flower: Mistletoe (I know, I know)

State Song: OKLAHOMA!

State Folk Song: Oklahoma Hills by Woody Guthrie

State Country Western Song: Faded Love by Bob Wills (I think by him)

We also have a State Meal that includes Chicken Fried Steak, Watermelon, Peas and about anything else you can think of to eat.

I remember once a long time ago, the Iowa legislature voted Kansas's State sunflower a "noxious weed" then Kansas declared Iowa's state bird a "public nuisance."

In middle school it was required to learn our state symbols. This is what I remember.

Tree: Palmetto
Bird: Carolina Wren
Drink: milk
Dance: The Shag
Dog: Boykin Spaniel
Reptile: loggerhead turtle
Flower: Jasmin
Anphibian: spotted salamander

My state: South Carolina

State Tree(s) - Redwood and Sequoia

State Flower - California Poppy

State Song - I Love You, California

Interesting CA fact: Mount Whitney is the highest point in North America, and only 90 miles away in Death Valley, is the lowest point in North America.

I actually knew these (from elementary school, mostly):

Ohio: Bird is Cardinal, Tree is Buckeye (what else?), Flower is red carnation, Song is "Beautiful Ohio" (I couldn't sing it if my life depended on it, though).

Virginia state bird is the Cardinal (evidently a very popular choice)

State flower: Dogwood. However the Dogwood is actually a tree which produces that flower. I know this because years ago there was a movie called "The America President" starring Michael Douglas as the President in love with Annette Benning. She is from Virginia and when he wants to send her flowers from her state he ends up having a Dogwood tree delivered to her. Needless to say she was quite surprised to get a tree.

State song is Carry me back to old Virginia (one of the worst songs ever written)
