Temporary, I hope, Color Blindness

Yesterday, I went to lunch with friends, as we were waiting for a table, my friend asked, Why are you wearing navy pants

with a black top?" I had looked at the pants all morning I

I thought they were black. When she said it I saw they were navy. Because I respect the knowledge, and wisdom of this forum, I am asking anyone ever have this happen?

Guilty! Didn't know it until I got to work. They looked black at home. Now I double check everything under every light in the house. LOL

Sometimes it's the lighting of a room that can make really dark navy look like black.

Before I had cataract surgery I saw blue as black. I had a lot of distortion of colors. Now I see everything as it should be.

Personally, I would schedule an opthomologist appointment at your earliest convenience to put your fears to rest.

@Miranda1550 ... Also, sometimes the manufacturers make the navy so dark, it's almost impossible to tell if it is navy or black. I've actually taken things outside in the sun so that I could see what color it actually was.

What bothers me, is that I was looking at the pants outside, and, in the car, they looked black until my friend told me I know in the house those colors are tricky.

@Miranda1550 I don't know if this applies to your current situation but many years ago I was under a ton of stress and working long hours. I have always been one of those people that lay their clothes out the night before to take some of the hectic out of the morning. I had been at work (under bright florescent lighting) for over half the day when I realized my top was olive and the rest of my outfit was grey. Ooops.

When I mentioned it in the meeting I was in everybody giggled and said they were surprised as normally I was always so put together (hence me laying my clothes out the night before). If you have a lot going on right now it may explain why you didn't notice it earlier (and to be honest black and navy are beyond tough to distinguish on the best of days).

I don't have a clue as to why OP couldn't tell the difference but I've never heard that failure to distubquish dark navy from black called color blindness. In fact, I can't think of a single female friend or relative who has color bindness!

Sometimes when I'm having difficulty, I turn the garment insude out and look at the thread and also at any other fixings on the pants - zippers, buttons. But mostly, I don't care all that much - dark navy and black are fine together.

I noticed difficulty discerning dark colors when I hit my mid fifties. I match dark colored socks in front of a bright window. Ah, the joys of aging!

Very stylish. And thank goodness. I've always loved medium navy with black in houndstooth patterns, etc. Now we can wear navy and black solids together!

I wear navy socks with black pants a lot. I wouldn't notice until sometime during the day or when I changed when I got home from work. I fixed that though, by getting rid of the navy socks. I rarely wore them with navy anyway.

I solve that problem by inscribing with an indelible ink pen the letter 'N' on the tag of the pants, so I know which pants are which.

Color blindness involves other colors like difficulty distinguishing green from red or green from yellow. Sometimes it's passed on through heredity and other times it happens over time (like with lens of our eyes becoming more opaque) and causing cataracts.

I wear dark navy shoes with black pants. Much softer than black shoes. Some black ones are REALLY black.

Since I was about 50 I have had to put N and B in the inside tags in my pants.

I have a pair of shoes that I have worn several times that I'm still not sure if they are blue or black. lol Got them from a discount shoe store, not sure if they were in the right box.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a black shirt with navy pants. Wearing one black shoe and one navy shoe however as I have done is not a good look!

Blue / Black: with age, it's hard to tell the difference even in direct sunlight. This is because a cataract is filtering out part of the blue and it translates to black.

In addition to writing in an " N " or B for navy or blue, I have white clamp hangars that I use. For slacks and skirts that are black, I use black clamp hangars. Saves time and confusion.

OTHERS: I once bought a gorgeous silk scarf that was olive green in the store. When I got to the office, I looked brown under the fluorescent lights. Crazy- making.

For DH who is 90% colorblind: I mark his shirts and ties with simple, agreed to names of color. The worst argument we ever had was when I wrote maize or straw instead of light yellow on one shirt. Before this marking effort, when I would call his office, his secretary would ask me if a knew what he had on that day. I knew it had to be a really bad color combination !!!
