Awesome. My dad has always been one of the nicest people on the planet! And I'm not just saying that because he's my dad.

He's been given many honors and awards for his service to his community.

I try every day, succeed sometimes, and I fail more often than I like to admit. A worthwhile goal, for certain. I used to be really bad about being a "right fighter," and that's something I've struggled with. I have to be really honest with myself about my motives for my posts... that makes me stop and think, and it helps. At least sometimes. I think the concept that sometimes it's better to be kind than to be right is a good one to embrace as much as humanly possible.

Thanks, I don't see you as being a "right-fighter," either. I really have pondered it, discussed it at length with my therapists, etc., since it's been one of my failings, @september.

I guess we all might notice that some people need to have the last word or pound others into submission... and we might conclude that their intent isn't very positive or benevolent. And it's true that it's a characteristic of a narcissistic personality, ironically often someone who actually has low self-esteem and needs to keep asserting themselves. So it's easy to default to thinking that's the reason. But I would also offer the suggestion that sometimes it's a genuine feeling that we know something true and good and we want so very much to get someone else to "see what we see." When I was a kid, I'd say, "if I could just get her/him to see!" And more than one wise parent, or other relative, or friend, or mentor, would tell me we just cannot do that. We all see with individual eyes. I was such an idealistic kid. Still an idealist, even now.

I have those times also with a couple people who seem to show up and dump negativity and/or sarcasm.

After reading what is in this thread I feel comfortable and at ease.

I am also at fault for losing patience at times.

My mother said that one too, but I never liked it. That's taking the easy road. I think I took after my dad who pretty much called it the way he saw it. I'm more like that. My favorite is predicting how something is going to come out for someone, and then getting the chance to have them tell me they should have listened. LOL Love that!
