Who taught you to drive?

My dad tried but he didn't have enough patience so I went to a drving school.

I took drivers ed in high school with three other students.

After that my dad taught me to drive a stick. It was excruciating learning to baby the VW's clutch just so. His jaw was clenched so tightly I think he ground his teeth to nubs.

My Dad, the cop. Use 1 hand only on steering wheel, 1 foot for both pedals. No hands at 9 and 3 or is it 2 and 10? My boyfriend mostly. Once my Mother.

When we got married Dh tried to teach me a stick shift, that didn't work. And I still don't know how to put gas in a car.

I cannot even imagine driving on the autobahn.

My Dad taught me to drive when I was very young. He was a formula 1 race car driver.

My first boyfriend and my big brother. Now that is a twosome but we are talking about 1949 with the boyfriend and then nothing so I got involved again with big brother and got my first license in 1960 in California.. LOL.

We were required to take Drivers' Ed at that time. So thank goodness I was taught well-- and on metro freeways. In between, I had a learner's permit so I drove with my parents. Favorite memory? I was learning on automatic transmissions, but one Sunday my beloved stepfather tried to teach me to drive the stick shift in his new Mustang. In the hills of St. Louis County, I could not stop and then get from neutral to first without killing the engine. I can still hear him laughing in such a warm and patient way as I gave up and got out of the driver's seat in the middle of an intersection. The next day he traded his new Mustang for an automatic! The irony? Now I will only drive a stick!

My stepdad. We made my mom stay home after the first lesson.

Years later, the salesman at the dealership taught me to drive a stick in 15 min. before I drove the car off the lot. It took me another 10 mos. before I could do it moderately well, and several mos. after that I gleefully traded in my one and only stick shift car. Never again!

Driver's ed. Then the required practice with my father or sister. I hated driving. I would leave my car parked in front of the house and take the bus to my after school job.

After school driver's ed at my high school. All the teachers were shop teachers, who none of the girls knew, since these classes weren't open to girls back then. The teachers favored the boys, since they knew most of them.

I took driver's ed in high school. My first turn behind the wheel, the instructor had me get behind the wheel at the bottom of an onramp for the San Diego Fwy & had me merge onto the freeway! He was more trusting than I would've been, but I did OK!

We had drivers ed as part of our high school curriculum.

But my dad taught me to drive in bad weather. It was quite the experience as we had two very bad winters, including the blizzard of 78 in our area and he had me out right afterward, learning how to handle the ice and snow.

My dad gave it a go about a week before drivers training began. It was part of the high school curriculum. I was the only one in our group that did not know how to drive. I remember looking over at my chart, seeing the note "new driver" and thinking that was a kind way to put it.
