Do you have them? Do you enjoy going to them? Has anyone NEVER had a garage sale? Any good, bad or ugly stories about garage sales?

I don't have them, I just take my unwanted things to Goodwill.

I don't go to them because I have enough of my own junk and the last thing I need is someone else's unwanted stuff. I would love to go and look for some mid-century modern kitchenware, clocks, etc, but I'm not disciplined enough to only come home with things like that and would come up with more junk.

My mother has them whenever she can, to earn some extra money, but she buys stuff all the time to put in them. I have yet to figure out how she is making money. I helped her with the first fifty or so and told her NO after that. I dislike having them or setting them up and tearing them down. I have never had one and pray I never will.

Another one who has never held a rummage sale. But I did purchase my Le Creuset 6-quart Dutch oven at an estate sale for $15 about 5 years ago. It is like new and I cook in it at least once a week.

I'm in alignment with ChynnaBlue -- not interested in others' discards. My DH, on the other hand, secretly believes he's going to find the world's next priceless treasure for a nickel-ninety-eight.

And, no, we have never held a sale. We donate instead.

Because I am moving soon, I am selling some things that are too good to throw away. I won't need them, and I priced them very low just to get rid of them.

DH & I had one 20 years ago when we built our present home. We got everything new & needed to get rid of a lot of things. We did very good & I only took 2 boxes f leftovers to St. Vincent's. I said NEVER again as it was a lots of work. Fast forward to this year. My mom passed away in March & after selling 80% of her things by word of mouth, My DH & I had an estate sale to get rid of her other things. Lots of work & though we did good, there will be NO more.

It's only worth it if you have good furniture/tools etc. I usually take it to the Goodwill.

People want to spend 25 cents for $50 item. I have had a few garage sales (what we call them here,) and they are a pita.

I am in the mood for getting rid of STUFF.

Our community neighborhood Has a yardsale weekend in July. This year I am going to get rid of three Mountain bikes I have been storing for ten years.....one is a brand new in the box Trek men's 17 inch bike. I thought I would ask $150 for it. it cost $500 ten years ago. I never put it together or used it. Won it years ago.

I think it is a good time of the year to sell mountain bikes.... I will also sell all my outdoor Christmas decorations.... Someone will want them. I do not care about the money I Make....just want to haul it out of here!

Tomorrow I have 1 -800 junk coming to haul away a bunch of heavy exercise equipment I never use any more..and a old Tube TV. Today I have St Vincent's De Paul coming to haul away a new washer and a New microwave/ convection oven for donation/ tax deduction that I had in my garage for several years that I also never opened or used.... These new things are prizes I won over the years in sweepstakes I won. I win a lot of prizes....many I keep, some I sell....some get pushed to the side and I forget about them!

My little town has one the first week in June. I hide in the house all day. There are people out there at 6 am, being loud, blocking the street and parking in my yard. I'm glad it's only once a year.

When I clean out the house and basement, I get rid of it asap. I'm not into holding onto stuff in hopes I can maybe sell it

I've never been to one. We had one just one time. The ad in the newspaper and the few signs we posted said it started 7:00. People rang our doorbell at 5:50. And as someone else said, you can price something for $.50 and someone will expect for you to accept $.25. Never again! Instead we donate to Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

Loved going to garage sales for years and almost bought the house at one sale-no kidding! I have had sales, too.

Where I live now is not in a good place to generate traffic for a sale. I am no longer looking for items for my home. When I was young, broke and needed everything It was such fun, especially shopping for my boys when they were young. I downsized my home ten years ago and may do so again next year.

Alas, I no longer shop for recreation, but I enjoyed the search and still thrift occasionally.

I've had several in the past and used to go to lots of them, too. Funny, but even now in high summer I'm not seeing as many as I used to. I think people just take their things to Goodwill or sell them on ebay.

I enjoyed the three sales I had at my house. Yes, people can be unpleasant, but I found most were very grateful and polite, happy to be getting a bargain. I priced things low to get them out and usually tossed in a bonus item, too.

If you have items of worth or expect to get close to what you paid for them, then a yard sale is not the best outlet. If you just want to empty the garage or basement, it can be fun.

A little over 30 years ago we had a really banging yard sale. We lived down the road from a major local event and planned it for that weekend. We didn't even have to advertise. Because there isn't enough parking for that event, there would be people parking for a mile or more down the streets that led up to it.

Consequently, we made a few thousand a day AND people were more polite back then and didn't try to offer you a dime for everything, no matter how much it was worth.

FF to about 15 years ago when somebody on our little street (where we live now) decided to do one and see if the other homeowners on the street wanted to participate. I figured, hey, get it all out of the way at once.

So, we decided to participate. NEVER again. People have become insufferable. Ok, honestly, I don't mean ALL people...just a pretty fair percentage of yard/garage sale people.

They show up hours before starting time. They bang on your door and lay on your doorbell asking where the stuff it before you can even get it out, and this is way before starting time.

Then they offer you about one-thousandth of a percent of what something is worth. I honestly had to leave around 9 or 10am because I was getting agitated at the rudeness. My husband didn't last a lot longer before packing up the rest and donating it. We only made a few hundred that day but who cares!

Now - we just donate anything that is still good and toss the rest. easy peasy and no stress.

@Mellie32 No, I've never had one and haven;t been to one in a few years. For awhile I went crazy looking for glassware, certain old Barbies that I could rejuvenate. Got them and they never got rejuvenated. Lol. My very dumbest purchase was a great big bag of very old marbles, $40.00 for the bag. Well, she got richer off me and I'm left holding the bag. (of marbles)

This one lady about my age used to go to Salt Lake City and buy from sales there and bring that up here to seel, so stupied buyers like me. I think she got old too, as I don't see her ads any more.

I went to a random yard sale last summer and found a full bottle of Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume for $5. She thanked me for not asking if I can have it for less. Some people just don't know the retail prices of things.

I still have some beautiful maple bedroom pieces that I bought at an estate sale back in CNY and moved them here. Our church used to have sales and I bought a lovely designer black leather skirt suit at one for $15. It's one of my favorites. When a neighbor moves and they are having a yard/garage sale, I usually buy something as a memento. My Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus "dolls" are an example. Here they are in my sitting room last Christmas.

Funny you should ask.....A friend of my daughters was having one and was looking for some girls to have it with her. My daughter talked me into it and we had it this past weekend. The people were coming 2 hours before the sale ...5:30 AM while we were setting up and rude...rude.... rude....

People STEAL...want to write checks and want everything for a quarter...

Never again....I felt bad for her girlfriend...she wanted to make some cash for her vacation...

Not any more. As it is now, I'm trying to get rid of "stuff" of which I have tooooo much, so not browsing garage sales or thrift stores.

No more garage sales, either. We actually had someone break into the garage in the early a.m. Sis was just pulling up, so the thief grabbed the closest things she could & took off running. Laugh was on her, though. All she got was an arnful of my recently-deceased dad's dress shirts. So she didn't get anything worth a lot. Not only do people steal now, but they come in groups so some can distract the property owner while others pilfer the smaller things.

Just no fun anymore!
