Father's Day

I was a blessed child. I grew up in a home with two parents who loved me. On this day of days, Father’s Day, I choose to tell you about my Dad.

He’s gone now, but only in the physical sense. He remains in my heart and spirit. I love him as much today as I did when I was his little girl, and now as an adult, I respect him so much more.

You see, my father was a hero. I do not make this claim lightly and am certain that many who knew him would wholeheartedly affirm it. Men cried upon hearing the news of his death. A few came to leave mementoes, notes and photos on his grave. One man brought his young son to Dad’s grave so he could say goodbye. Dad was that kind of a man.

Due to the circumstances of his youth he had very little education, yet he was the smartest man I knew. He grasped concepts quickly and had a clarity of thought and vision that enabled him to get to the crux of the matter straight away. That included people – you could not easily deceive or fool my Dad.

He had an inordinate sense of justice, compassion and a tender heart. Dad didn’t believe in judging people. He did not attend church, yet, by example, he taught me more about acceptance and tolerance than I ever learned from sitting on a church pew.

I could go on, but I believe you can see now why I feel blessed to have been the daughter of such a man. Thank you, Dad. For everything.

What a wonderful post!

My Dad was of 'the greatest generation' and there wasn't anything he wouldn't attempt to fix! He was a handy guy who loved working with tools. If he didn't know how to do something, he managed to find a way to do it -- maybe a neighbor was skilled at it or he got a book and read up on how to do something the correct and proper way. Basic electrical wiring for instance or wallpapering walls are two examples. If the job was too complicated he had the sense to hire someone!

He taught me that I could do anything I wanted to be when I grew up and was always encouraging me to do and be the best growing up!

I miss you Dad today and always!

He is a wonderful dad who gives me love and support each and every day! I grew up in a wonderful, loving home where daddy came home from work and made sure he took time with me, in spite of not growing up in such a loving home, himself. He always encouraged me to follow my dreams. My parents have been married for 55 years now and show daily virtures of a wonderful marriage! I am truly blessed as their daughter.

DH lost his father suddenly in October of 2015. This is a hard day for him this year. My FIL also could have been the wonderful father you described in your post @IamMrsG! He always treated me like family. My inlaws had just celebrated 50 years of marriage.

I believe that it takes a strong man of faith to lead his family for that many years. In honor and memory of my father and FIL, Happy Father's Day! I also want to wish all of the fathers a wonderful day! God bless you all!

My real Dad was not in my life but I had the most wonderful step father. He was so good and kind to me. Treated me like I was his own daughter. A caring grandfather also. Gave me great advice growing up. I miss him so much since he passed away. Sometimes stepfathers are not recognized on Fathers Day but I had the best one ever!

Thank you Preds, in my heart I know he knows.

I try not to be sad, I just remember him the way that he was and that makes it

bearable. There are so many families dealing with loved ones with Alzheimers.

I was the first girl born on my dad's side in 4 generations. After 4 sons he was ecstatic when I was born. He has always been my rock, my biggest fan and supporter. I am so proud to be his daughter and the mother of his grandsons.
